Flyboys
Last night at the Director's Guild of America theater in Hollywood was the initial private screening of Flyboys. I am not an unbiased opinion, but I thought it was a great flick. I hope you all will enjoy it when it comes out, which should be sometime this coming summer.
It is cool seeing your name scrolling up in the credits on the big screen, even if it's pretty far down.

Flyboys
Are there still aeroplanes in it?
Is this a finished cut or are they test-audiencing it? Need any tweaks?
Maybe now they'll update the Web site.

What is your name? I mean real. Don't worry, I won't steal your idenity or kill you or something. I am particularly harmless.

I think we're all greatly looking forward to seeing this movie Baldeagle, and thanks for keeping us so well informed during this process of bringing it to the big screen.
We'll all be looking for you up there..........

unfortunate perception
I sure don't think you can realistically "hope it does better than Kong."
Other than "failing" to fulfill a prediction of the Drudge report to be the highest grossing film EVER made, which was latched onto by critics desperate to see the end of a huge slide in film attendance, Kong is already wildly successful by ANY standards, The constant reporting of disappointment in the media is most unfortunate. Here are some figures. first 27 days gross for Kong is reported at:$465,303,155. Although no one is claiming or expecting it to approach "Titanic" numbers, (made for roughly same amount BUT in 1997 dollars). Titanic grossed $206,734.310 during first four weeks.
Critically, Kong was listed on 206 Top ten film lists and rated #5 overall for the year. (With "Brokeback Mountain" listed as #1, and surely will not generate anything approaching Kong revenues.) Add to this, megabuck additional income from Volkswagen, Burger King and Frito-Lay advertising campaigns, Additional weeks/months of world-wide movie theatre revenues, and the anticipated extended-version DVD sales (Titanic DVDs sold $250 million first week, alone.) television rights, an additonal market of Production Diary DVDs, Kong memorabilia marketing,Numerous video and book products through Amazon and other venues and a host of other avenues of marketing KONG 05. No film appeals to every one. some will like it more than others. I enjoyed it immensely. Don't think it was too long at all-in fact eagerly awaiting the release of the extended version DVD so I an enjoy more of the magic. All three Lord of the Rings films were three hours and all hugely successful, critically and financially. I'd be absolutely stunned if future reviews do not record it as one of the all-time great classics. Time will tell.

Cut Kong?
Sure, "King Kong" could have been edited shorter. The movie has some thematic dead ends. But would you WANT to cut any of it. No way!
Also, at three hours, "Kong" had fewer showing per day, which cut into grosses. And remind yourself that in DVD sales, the studio makes all the profit.

After badgering my wife to see it, we finally saw Kong last week. I really had to talk her into seeing it. She has very little interest in seeing a movie that will last longer than two hours. Just my opinion, but I think the length is what is holding Kong back from being the uber flick of all time. Many people I've spoken with about the film just don't want to invest three hours in a movie seat. But in the end my wife and I really enjoyed the film. It didn't feel like three hours. Towards the end, she whispered a number of times, "Is Kong going to die?" "Is she going to fall off the sky scraper?"

I was in the "Little Rascals" once upon a time! Nope, but would like to be in a good war movie. Like me being in the Hitler Youth or something during WWII. Could be a good idea.
