Attack of the Hawkmen

This movie was one of series of "Young Indiana Jones" movies and is quite enjoyable with lots of flying scenes and and interesting story with the Baron and Luftberry it. A good watch and reasonable accuracy and detail. I think it was made in the early 90s or so.

The whole Young Indiana Jones series was good. Can't wait for the DVD set, if they ever get around to it.

Yes, I was waiting for an adventure that involved the men of the air from the moment he joined the Army. A good story, from what I recall of it.

You can get it on VHS here (http://www.indianajones.com/young/chapter/chapter12/).

I have a few of the "Young Indiana Jones" on VHS, but sadly I don't have "The Attack of the Hawk Men" and yes, it was very enjoyable. And I’ll give the producers this much, at lest they had some creativity and treated the story with a little historical influence by having von R flying an Albatros! The last time I seen this particular episode was when it originally aired on TV.

The script for "Attack of The Hawkmen" credits "Story by George Lucas."
Many people have concluded that George Lucas' Star Wars" films and stories evolved from his early passion for WWI aviation history. He is Still quite the WWI aero buff. First draft for this script was November 1992. If you listen closely, you might notice that the engine sounds are recordings of actual WWI aero engines dubbed in. And I believe that where model aircraft were used, they slowed the footage down to approximate actual full scale speed.
They went to the trouble of drafting large size blueprints ( in the odd scale of 1:20 ) of each of the aircraft to be used in this film; the Albatros D.V; Fokker Dr.I; Nieuport 17; and Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutter. The story boards are WAY cool!

About George

The Empire’s Tie-Fighter and the Rebels X-Wings are both space ship versions of biplanes. And the Rebel Troop transport looks like a dirigible.

A couple of other Young Indianna Jones have some short flight scenes in them too. One was about the war in the trenches. Will have to dig them out and see.

Thumbs up

They were filming some of that at Aerodrome '94, but how much got into the final cut, if any. I don't know, but I think some of the Triplane footage was from there, heavliy retouched.
