Danke, Regulus!

This is a real treat. I've been wondering how filming was going. When it gets to the States, I'll probably have to drive 2 hours to see it, but I will do!

Cheers,
Scarlett

Hi all,

Those photos look pretty good. Lena Headey sure is pretty, but what's she doing in the cockpit!?!

I'm looking foward to this film, but so far I have no expectations.

Regards,

After taking an afternoon to watch all of the video blogs, I'm rather eager to see this movie. =P I'll give 'em some room for error in the way of dramatics, just because I get tired of shouting myself blue at the movie screen. In any event I hope it makes it to the US whenever it comes out.

Well rottentomatoes gives now 29% to flyboys, this film simply cannot be more worse, +it's german. They usually release good war movies like Das Boot (best war film ever) Der Untergang (downfall) etc

I hope they don't take as meany liberties with history as Flyboys and I hope the computer generated graphics are a bit better. I can't wait for this one to hit the US.

The fact that they are using Albatros DIII and DV's and there is an RE8 mockup being used on the gimble is very encouraging. The self funded German film will most likely be more historically correct than the self funded Hollywood film. From the notes on the FLyboys Real v Reel, they made some decisions to 'play up to stereotypes' to be safe. I hope in Red Baron, they keep the CGI aircraft within the proper flight envelopes and not resort to moves straight out of 'enemy ace' comic books.

I am really looking forward to the film. But from what I am seeing the idea of MvR and Brown meeting on the ground before 21 April 1918 is really a bothersome plot twist. (If I was going to do a MvR v. Brown bit, parallel plot lines showing how both Brown and MvR had both become physically worn out but still leading their flights on 21 April.)

Taking Katie up in a Curtiss Jenny during their romance is beyond belief too. BTW, who was importing Jennys into Germany during the war?

On the plus side, the look and age of the actors is spot on. However, Joseph Fiennes is probably a bit older than Brown.

Other things I have seen I would have done differently:

1. Used historic markings for JG1 aircraft. I think that the audience would quickly pick up on the Red, Yellow, spiral and stripes motifs of the squadrons. It appears from the video on the planes that whatever cool markings from whatever pilot were randomly used for the planes in JG.I.

2. Roy Brown's cap has a RFC badge on it. Ooops, He was RNAS and later RAF. (9 Naval, 11 Naval and 209 Sqd.) He could have the khaki uniform but with RNAS badges et al.

This should be fun. I hope it gets good distribution in the US! But I am sure there will be viewers wondering why MvR does not look like the guy on the Pizza ads.

Just watched the “Filming of the Red Baron” video clip and I think the German movie makers have much better scenes of historical accuracy on this subject than Hollywood does. Just to see those beautiful Albatros fighters in a full spectrum of colors truly illustrates why JG.I was called the “Flying Circus” (and the fact that they traveled up and down the front lines by train) and does allot of Justus to the memory to Von Richthofen, and this movie will be a fitting marmoreal to him; after all the“Red Baron” has become an international hero, whether we like it or not. I can’t wait to see it.

Yes, the airplanes and scenery look good...but the long curly blond locks of Matthias Schweighoefer playing MvR are too out of place for me. Grumble, grumble.
