men with wings

I can remember being very curious about this film since seeing a couple of b/w photos of movie stills in a cross and cockade journal many years ago.
the movie is now available via ebay and i purchased a copy several weeks ago and finally got around to watching the film. I would say that it is not a WWI aviation film. It is a film about aviation and has some memorable scenes for early aircraft types- but the segment concerning WWI is not too long and is one fairly long dogfight scene, rendered in "typical" WIngs, Hell's Angels style.
The person selling the dvds states that he is only allowed to sell through ebay and is going to offer them in small numbers at any one time. I will say that my dvd arrived promptly, well packaged for safety in the mail and the dvd quality is good to very good. These are not digitally remastered- i am not sure of the process used- but the quality was more than enough to enjoy the film.
William Wellman was the director, and the plot consists of yet again two best friends and a girl caught in the midddle! Does anyone know if there is something in Wellman's life that explains this recurrent theme?
