Dawn Patrol DVD release

The Dawn Patrol (1938) starring Errol Flynn is being released on DVD this Tuesday, March 27th. I cant find much info on if it has been remastered or not, but still will be great to see the film!

Aw-right! Another to add to the collection. Thanks Cubsfan4life. I'll be watching for this one. I haven't seen it since before I began shaving.

I saw that it was coming out. I've got it and "Hell's Angels" on order.

Oh my, smashing up original WW1 airplanes!

Thanks for the news! I remember reading about that but then completely forgot. My top 3 favorites are HELL'S ANGELS, DAWN PATROL and THE BLUE MAX. It's great to see DAWN has finally arrived!

Another oldie but goodie I wish that they would produce on DVD is "The Eagle and the Hawk" with Fredric March and Cary Grant (and let's not forget Carole Lombard..hubba, hubba )

I just watched Darling Lili. What little air combat there was was excellent. Pity about the rest of the film, though.

It comes out on DVD in a couple of weeks and is
not pricy at all
! I haven't seen this one but know it's a Roger Corman movie. Is it very Corman-ish (meaning cheap and goofy) or is it good? The reviews on amazon make it sound pretty interesting.

Now if someone could put out Aces High. I love miniature model work, even if it isn't always realistic (I love the asthetics of Japanese monster movies too... no really!).

Oh and on the subject of miniatures, I thought THE FLYING TIGERS was a great aerial combat movie, starring The Duke and effects by the Lydecker brothers, who worked on dozens of Republic Studios serials in the 30s and 40s. Howard Lydecker went on to work on Irwin Allen's tv projects and later helped on effect for Tora! Tora! Tora!

Shonokin, I bet you liked the old Ultra Man shows. Remember the planes on strings with the smoke moving back then up! Maybe there's some deep psychological reason for this , but I always got a kick out of watching those monsters destroying the buildings. And of course Ultra Man would show up, and help destroy more things while fighting the monsters. Great fun.

When I was a kid, I made that crossed arm motion Ultra Man would make to destroy an opponent, and almost got my but kicked by my father - thinking I was making some obscene gesture!

I got the Flying Tigers DVD last year. It's another favorite from my youth. That's neat to know about Howard Lydecker and Tora! Tora! Tora!. Thanks.

Bruno, I'm glad to see I'm not alone in this group in liking this type of stuff. It's all good fun. When I was a kid (to my Mom's horror) I would lay a ladder flat in the snow in the front yard and then turn it over several times so there was a series of blocks created in the snow. Then in my best imitation of Godzilla I would trash my snow city. hehe The front yard was a shambles.

Here are a couple of pics from THE FLYING TIGERS. The first is the Lydeckers setting up explosives for the bridge attack scene.

And this is the bridge getting blown with the plane in view.

Ok, just wanted to share and will let this go back on topic.
