Thanks JFM for the clarification about the aeroplane used by MvR for his first victory.

Thanks Ricardo! JFM and Beto were good enough to bury me in excellent reference materials on both aircraft. I'm doing some revisions and fine tuning of the models based on that info and then it will be on to the animation. I'm not stalled out, just caught up in the minutiae of brackets and other details.

Thanks for the cheerleading!

Hey Beto,
I'm at AirVenture this week in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The Oshkosh fly in is the biggest aviation event in the US. It's huge beyond belief. I'm taking lots of pictures and will post some as I process them on my laptop. If I were to make a criticism of the Oshkosh event it would be that it's weak on WW1 aircraft. The Dayton, Ohio event last fall had way more WW1 airplanes.

On a different note, I got to meet AAC Cadet Leader and Lloyd (the one without a laser) today. Cadet Leader is here doing her presentation about her trip around the US meeting pilots of vintage airplanes and mooching rides from them. Walking around an air show with her is a different kind of experience. "Oh yeah, that's Bob Wigglewart's '32 PB&J. I flew in that". Two minutes later it's "Oh yeah, that's Goodyear blimp LSMFT007. I flew in that." Cadet Leader has been around the aviation hobby, let me put it that way.

The Red Baron has been on hold for a few weeks while I did my bi-annual painting for the US Air Force Art Program. I finished the painting before I left on this tip so there will be more Red Baron work when I get back. Thanks to you and Jim Miller I have lots of details to add to the models.
Thanks for checking in!

After going to Oshkosh and meeting Martha and Lloyd and so many other great people it impresses me that the best thing about the aviation hobby isn't the airplanes. It's the the people in the hobby. By the end of three days it seemed like the three of us were old friends.

I'm still digging out from my trip, having spent another 10 days on the east coast before coming home. Photos of Oshkosh, a scan of my 2008 USAF painting and more on MvR vs Hawker coming right up.

Good luck promoting your book, Martha. I can't wait for my copy!

And here's a shot of Martha in the control tower at Oshkosh. From the looks of her thumb on her left hand she's in the process of trying to get another ride on an old airplane.
