Recreating Murvaux, Site of Frank Luke's Death

Recreating Murvaux, Site of Luke's Death

From France: New Interview With THE STAND Author Stephen Skinner
Over The Front, TheAerodrome On Board As Presenting Sponsors

The latest video for the upcoming book THE STAND: The Final Flight of Lt. Frank Luke, Jr. was released this morning, previewing some of the amazing "then and now" photographs to be featured in the new book on America's flamboyant air ace of World War I. The video is now available for viewing on "The Documentary" page of the book's official web site, THESTANDfrankluke. com.

"When you're dealing with a mystery this old, the only way to figure out what really happened is to get up and go," said THE STAND author Stephen Skinner. "There's just no substitute for being there. One of my primary goals in France was to recreate the village of Murvaux exactly as it was in 1918, including all the German military installations that were there at the time. Only then would we have a real chance at unraveling what occurred in Luke's last moments."

The latest entry in the video series takes viewers to the village of Murvaux, near the spot where Medal of Honor ace Frank Luke was found dead on 29 September 1918, and shows how the 2007 Frank Luke Discovery Expedition found rare, unpublished photos of the area and recreated them for use in THE STAND.

Shot entirely on location in France, the 2-minute, 25-second feature is now available on "The Documentary" page of THESTANDfrankluke. com.

Over The Front, TheAerodrome Sponsor THE STAND

Agreements have been reached with two major World War I aviation organizations who are now official presenting sponsors of THE STAND: The Final Flight of Lt. Frank Luke, Jr.

The League of WWI Aviation Historians is the country's primary organization for such studies and includes many casual enthusiasts and historians as well as nearly every serious WWI aviation researcher in North America. The League will feature THE STAND on their web page (OverTheFront. com) and their highly acclaimed quarterly journal titled Over The Front.

League president Dick Bennett said, "Frank Luke's exploits and death have made him almost a legendary figure. We're excited that Stephen Skinner has chosen to publish his research into Luke's spectacular flying career. Stephen is a long-time member of the League and one of its strongest boosters. We hope his book, THE STAND, will introduce another generation of Americans to one of our first aviation heroes."

Russell Smith's new cover art for THE STAND will appear on the cover of an upcoming issue of Over The Front. League membership is available through their web site at OverTheFront. com.

TheAerodrome hosts the world's largest online forum dedicated solely to aviation during the Great War. Webmaster and site creator Scott Hamilton was among the first to support author Stephen Skinner's work when he assisted with the restoration of the Frank Luke monument in France nearly ten years ago. Hamilton has continued to support Luke research in the intervening years by carrying regular updates on the writing of THE STAND.

Since that time, TheAerodrome has grown exponentially with more than 8,000 regular members and over 2.7 million site visitors. TheAerodrome is the undisputed leader among WWI aviation forums and many of the foremost Great War scholars worldwide have contributed to the site.

TheAerodrome has launched WWI aviation research into cyberspace, providing a network by which researchers across the globe can share information and data. Membership and access to the forum is available at TheAerodrome. com.

Schiffer Publishing and author Stephen Skinner are delighted to have two of the most significant World War I aviation organizations in the world as presenting sponsors of THE STAND: The Final Flight of Lt. Frank Luke, Jr.
