Harry Abbott Story.

Hi Willy:
The movie, (if it happens) I believe will be my Father, Harry Abbott, being recruited by a Chinese American, Young Sen-yat, the first C.O. of the Chinese Nationalist Air Force. The training of a group of Chinese-Americans by my Father. The air show (put on by the the pilots my Father trained ) for Community in Courtland Ca, The departure from San Francisco for Shanghai in October 1923. The men being sworn and commissioned in to the Dr,Sun Yat-sen's South China Air Service (s.C.A.S.) of Koumingtang. My Father, a Captain, was he executive office, second in command to Col.Young. The bombing rain on Canton with six Jennys and Friesley Falcon.
The Sabotage of the aircraft and hangars in Canton, by members of Harry's boys. The return to Canton and the design building of Airplane No.1,
The Christening cermonies of the Rosamonde (Airplane No.1). The Taifun and my birth the next day.
The death of Col.Young by a bomb explosion. Harry promoted to Lt.Col. and made the C.O. of the S.C.A.S. He was 23 years old!
Harry's involvement in several battles and twice being wounded. My Mother's arguments and insistance of his resignation at the completion of his contract.
The men my Father trained all became Generals in the Nationalist Air Force in the War with Japan, from 1937 on.
Intrigue, action, flying, and a little history. I think that is what it will be about.
Blue skies,
Dan-San

Movie

What a remarkable honor it must be to have one's father recognised for his personal contribution to history in "the movies"! But I suspect you are much more proud of his deeds that underlie this tribute. Congratulations........John

Photo of Harry Abbott?

Do you have a photo of your father?
I was wondering who would be the right actor for the role. If it had been the 50's or 60's I could imagine one of my favorites, Gregory Peck. Nowadays, who would be the lead man suitable for such a film?

Harry Abbott Story-WACOs used by Chinese in mid-1930s

Dan,

Your father's story is an interesting one, you can count on me buying a ticket if it makes it to the big screen.

I want to ask you what may be a related question. In the early 1930s, the Chinese goverment purchased at least one group of WACO biplanes from the WACO Aircraft company in Troy, Ohio.

During WWI, WACO made military gliders, but they ran at least one ad promoting the fact that WACO biplanes were used in WWII earliest days during one of the air battles by the Chinese against invading Japanese.

I have done some informal research on this subject, but have not found any good, comprehensive sources. There are a few web sites that list Chinese aces of WWII, and have mentions of early air battles, but the aircraft used were not listed.

Can you please suggest any good sources? If you need more details, I can provide a news snippet telling of the sale if the aircraft from WACO to the Chinese, and I think I can provide a low resolution scan of the advertisement in question.

Thank you.
