They are from the UK TV Gold source.
I'm based in Thrapston in Northamptonshire.

Hi, Prop Blast.

May I ask; did you record them from TV, direct to DVD, or VHS, then transfer them to DVD?

On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate the quality?

Thanks for your time.

No I didn't record them from TV, direct to DVD, or VHS, then transfer them to DVD. I brought the series ages ago on dvd and copied them onto my computer.
The series is from UK TV GOLD.
Quality I would say is around 7-10.

Well, I finally got around to finishing watching all seasons 1 and 2, and was pretty impressed with the story, the acting, the aircraft etc.

I wasn't expecting academy award winning performances, nor did I peer close up to the TV screen to spot the slightest piece of film that has something out of place. Nor did I expect cutting edge computer graphics.

Having said that, I thouroughly enjoyed the entire series, looking forward to each new episode. Great entertainment.

I remind all that it was shot in the late 70's. If you don't expect a blockbuster Peter Jackson-esque cutting-edge film heaven experience, you too will enjoy it.

I m Looking to get it on dvd

Hi Steve,

I want to get a copy of the series, I like the way you have to caution people about films these days, People expect so much, But they dont understand making films these days involves alot of risk, so all we see at the cinema are films that are special effects romps with 100 million dollar budgets and $2.00 story lines, thats really the case here in Australia because we have such a limited market. So people have begun to become spoilt by CGI and start whingng about details and expect so much these days. Thats specially the case with older shows, ifind you just sit back and enjoy what you get. So i look forward to Wings, lately i rented out Aces High , Blue Max and Flyboys, and I found that Aces High and Blu Max kicked flyboys butt, Flyboys was a disappointment. I ve seen all the films before but iwas having critical veiwing and seeked out to intentionaly compare each of them.

When the movie "Saving Private Ryan" came out, I went to the cinema with my flatmate to watch it, and he's really knowledgeable about all things WW2. So we're in this quiet cinema, the opening scenes roll with the LOUD explosions, guys getting their arms blown off, heads penetrated by .50 cal rounds etc. Some left to throw up. Those that stayed went quiet for a little while. Until my flatmate jumped up and SCREAMED "WHAT THE F*#^&@!!! Look at that soldier's arm-band. Liebstandarte Adolf Hitler!!! What the F$*#& is he doing on the beaches of Normandy? That Unit was never near there."

And then later on...stuff like "that 88mm flak gun has no sight on it! How can he shoot with any degree of accuracy?" and "What RUBBISH! There's no way that anti-tank rifle could penetrate the forward facing armour of a Panzer IV". All SCREAMED out loudly. I was mortified. Told him to shut up and just enjoy the movie. He told me he couldn't enjoy such irritating rubbish.

Well, I enjoyed it because I didn't look too critically at it.

Same as in "Wings". I'm sure there's weapons they used that were not introduced until later on, non-standard issue shoelaces, maternity jackets not correctly buttoned, etc etc.

If you sit down to watch an enjoyable series, you'll love it. No, it's not Peter Jackson (soon I hope...it WILL happen soon), and its "fuzzy", filmed in PAL B or whatever the poms use for their TV broadcasts (less lines on the screen than here in Oz, so it just seems "fuzzy" and a bit out of focus...which of course it isn't), and it's been dubbed from video tape to DVD.

So, don't expect too much, and you'll love it.

And yes...Aces High was a great flick, Blue Max was BRILLIANT, and Flyboys was rubbish. I also just recently saw the movie "Wings". It's a silent 1923 (I think) production. Not bad for the time I thought.
I'm building up quite a collection.

Hear, hear on "Wings" . Boddo and the boys did a great job all things considered. I'm usually quite critical about such things but there was just so much they got right on Wings. Afraid I can't agree on 'Wings' the movie though Steve. 'Dawn Patrol' was far better. Have you got a copy of that or "The Lost Squadron" ?

Breguet,

Yes, I have got "Dawn Patrol". Certainly up there with the best ever WW1 aviation movies of all time. Possibly the best, though I think that title might rest with "The Blue Max". I don't have "The Lost Squadron".

"Wings" the movie is not brilliant. Silent film. VERY VERY long. But I thought it wasn't BAD. Reasonable aerial sequences. Rich guy and poor guy from the same town...join up together, become enemies, then after they "duke it out", they become best mates. Both love the same girl. So many cliches.

I'm still waiting for release of "The Red Baron" in January.

And for Peter Jackson to finally begin shooting on THE definitive WW1 aviation movie. (Soon please Peter).
