New Zealand

This coming April I will be in New Zealand for 2 weeks.
I am planning on being at Omaka, but does anyone know of any other interesting aircraft collections or restorations that I should put on the itinerary?
Regards,
John

good question, Maxim. I'll be at the Oamaka show as well and would like to hear the same information. I know that the New Zealand Fighter Pilots museum is at Lake Wanaka. I'll probably pay a visit while I'm down that way. Their website is:

Some more NZ aviation attractions

Hi Guys
Here are some more places of possible interest:

The Airforce Museum at Wigram in Christchurch is very well done with 28 exhibits (lots of aeroplane models as well). Unfortunately only two WWI planes. Christchurch is the biggest city in the South Island and about 3 hours drive south from Omaka.

There seems to be some aircraft on display at Ashburton (just south of Christchurch). I don't know any more about this display.

If Auckland is part of your NZ trip then you should visit MoTaT (Museum of Transport and Technology). They have a Lancaster and a Solent flying boat among other aviation exhibits:

Avspecs is an aircraft restoration company at Ardmore Aerodrome just south of Auckland:

There is another airforce museum at Ohakea Airforce base near Bulls in the central North Island. There isn't as much to see there compared to Wigrambut if you are driving past (its on State Highway One) it might be worth a visit.

Just out of Masterton at Hood Aerodrome there is a aircraft restoration business:

Cheers
James

One place I can highly recommend to anyone interested in early aviation is Maderville near Gore on the South Island.

There is a thriving restoration business there, specializing in Moths and the like.
You can even go for a fly at great rates.

I would advise you to look it up when your there, you won’t regret it!

Regards

PC

Wow!
Lots more than I expected. Really appreciate all the info and I'm sticking little pins in my NZ map to plan out the program.
I'll have to get a jacket or something displaying my allegance to the forum to wear when I'm there to help connect with as many forumians as possible. Any more ideas, keep them coming.
Regards,
John

Work in progress

John,

News is that an FE.2b is being built ground up by/for Peter Jackson somewhere down there. He bought a Beardmore engine from Argentina. I sure would like to know where it is and how it is coming along. Photos, details, future plans... etc

James, do you have any information on this?

Observing,

Fee2b
