Fantasy of Flight Museum
Fantasy of Flight Museum
Planning another Florida trip & wanted to visit this museum. Wanted to see what others thought of it? My first thought when looking at the site is "flying in the biplane"!

JC
I have been there many times and I enjoy it every time that I go.
Depending when you are planning to, there are several other aviation things to do. The EAA has their Sun N Fun fly in April 8 -13. If you enjoy scale r/c airplanes, Top Gun is April 23 - 27. Many of the best scale r/c builders in the world will be there. Also, there is the Florida Air Museum. All of these are located at the Lakeland Linder Regional Airport.
Have fun
Bill

Hi JC,
I go there every time I'm in FL. The place is very interesting and is well run. I recommend you spend the extra time to take the tour, make sure it goes through the restoration shop. I'm a nut for the planes that are being restored, all in pieces, getting cleaned up and put back together.
My first trip there they flew the Storch to a standstill in a headwind, it was amazing.

Your first thought should be
jc -
I have to preface this with - I've been there and it was great. The displays and collection are outstanding and the flying demo of the Fieseler Storch was a real highlight. It's an impressive airplane.
But your first thought should be - hit the ATM. The gate price will be a suprise if you are not prepared for it (we were not....)
But I should say, again, it was worth it and I'll go again if I'm in the area.

Can't wait!!!!
Thanks guys! Now I really can't wait!
ATM: My friend told me of the price BUT it sounds like it's well worth it! I would be in 7th HEAVEN if my friend would build his museum right next door (neon signs & airplanes-YES!)

First impressions can be decieving... when you drive up to it, it doesn't seem like much...
But wow... if you love airplanes... and airplane stuff... you'll like this. The Hangars are deceptively HUGE! One of them has a B-24 and a Sunderland Flying boat inside along with Tons of other aircraft... and it still seems like there is still more room available...
Do the restoration shop tour and if you like to see bits and pieces, do the back lot tour too...

You must go....!
I visited last year from Australia....on that particular day leaving the other 2 adults and 6 youngsters to Disney while I had MY DAY OUT !!!!!
Fantasy of Flight was just great...I couldnt believe what a great display the
B17 made only to walk around the corner ...and WOW !!!...I will let you find out for yourself....just great.
The flight in the Standard was tops and the Stearman was even better...the lady 'instructor' just the best, letting me have some fun with the controls banking between the trees...at approved height of course...!
The staff were just the best , happy to have a yarn and I did all the tours which were tremendously interesting.
In England go to the Shuttleworth collection....in USA go to Fantasy of Flight....in Australia go to ....oh well I'll save up and see if I can compete one day! But dont hold your breath !
Warm the mulled wine before Dawn Patrol please nurse...

Hey JC,
Here is the info, 94th Aero Squadron, 94 Fairchild Dr, Clearwater Florida 33762-3523. Phone - 727/524-4155.
I found it on the net. Last I was in FL, my brother inlaw said he thought it may have closed. I'm not certian but if you do go and it's open, make sure to let us know.
Have Fun,
Phil
