Old Rhinebeck
So, I've decided to take my dad to the first show at Old Rhinebeck this season. He's been before, I never have, and I'm the one planning this. I've wanted to go to OR with him for a while now.
Anything I should expect? We're coming from Central Mass. and more than likely camping in the area.
Thanks.

Expect to want to go back!
You are in for a treat. If your dads been there before, I'm sure he will tell ya that for the most part not much has changed other than the shows themselves.
Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome is much more than an air show. To get the full experience, try to get there early to browse the museum buildings up past the parking lot. Many people make the mistake of showing up just before showtime and leaving right afterwards. Cole Palen built one of the world’s largest collections of pre WW2 aircraft and engines which are not to be missed. From originals to replicas, you will want to take your time to absorb all ORA has to offer.
Down on the field, if the workshop doors are open, you might be able to see the current restoration being worked on. If not, you might ask someone to escort you inside for a quick peek. You will find them very accommodating.
There is a snack bar with a seating area down on the airfield or you can bring in your own food if you prefer. You’ll be treated to the sights and sounds of the New Standard rides planes hopping rides while you dine. The airfield still offers 1918 style restrooms (pota-a-pottys) while more conventional restrooms are up in the large museum hanger up on the hill.
And yes, and bring lots of film.
Have a great time!
Salute,
Steve

thanks a lot
for replying to this and the other one (I didn't see the dedicated ORA section until later)
I plan on brining tons of film, including my ancient TLR. Nothing says old aircraft like badly exposed square black and white prints
The thing now is to work out the logistics and lodging and taverns for afterwards.

If you like Old Rhinebeck, you will also like the Flying Circus in Bealeton, Virginia. The Flying Circus does not have the museum part, but they feature a nice collection of aircraft in the airshow. Where the Flying Circus outshines Rhinebeck in my personal opinion is the airplane rides. In addition to an ordinary ride, for a bit more money you can get an acrobatic ride with manoevers such as a spin, aileron roll, barrel roll, loop, snap roll, cuban 8 and split "S". They give their acrobatic rides in either a Stearman or a Fleet, though they also give non acrobatic rides in those plus a Waco or a Cub.
