Smile Another untrained replacement...

Hello all,

Lt. Raper reporting in. I have been interested in the Great War ever since I can remember. Things have had me side tracked a bit of late (work, wife, kids, house, cars, etc), but found this site and thought this would be a good place to get reacquainted with the history.

You'll find this bunch quite friendly.

Cheers,

I have been doing a bit of surfing (just found the site yesterday, so not much), and I haven't seen any sniping. That is good!

Welcome LT

Dear Lt. Raper, Welcome home buddy. If you are interested in the flyers of 1914-1918 you have come to right place. Don't worryabout the so-called sniping; while sarcasim in alive and well in some members when I get bitchy somebody buys me a saucer of milk and I chill out.

Anyway most of that occurs in the "Off Topic" area of the Forum which has been strangely quiet lately. Seriously if you need any help just send up a flare and we'll be here. VR Scott Price, a.k.a. Roadhog

PS I am from Alabama so English is my second language also.

Interests?

Welcome Lieutenant!

Do you have any particular areas of interest? It would be nice to know this. We all run across so much information in our research efforts. If one knows that somebody is interested in something specific i.e. French aces, German balloons, RFC aircraft....it will be easier to post this information for your use.

Can anyone explain why the recent surge of new memberships? I see the total is well past 5,000 now. Many of the "newcomers" seem to be returnees to the subject after a long absence.

How marvellous this technology is... I assume that eventually we will be able to broadcast live airshows and hold interactive tele-conferencing events on special subjects... maybe even do live auctions of memorabilia?

Hey, that's great! Like my grandfather, I speak 3 languages. Profanity, slang and very poor English...

My idol as a kid was the great one - Manfred von Richthofen. I prefer German aircraft to the allies, but the SPADs are not bad. If I had the money, time and flight training, I would be interested in full scale, but for now models will have to do. Sigh...

Just to add to Lt. Rapers comments. I stumbled across this site this week. What a find and what a knowledgeable bunch. I've been wargaming the period off and on over the last 30 years, but don't let that put you off. Hope to contribute some of my meagre offerings in the future.
