Post Scratch building 37% scale rc DR1-425/17

First of all I would like to say...I don't know why I didn't know about this forum before now. From reading the posts I have read sofar all of you are very helpful and a bunch of the good guys
Looking forward to finding a few answers I need to confirm what I have while building my 37% scratch built scale rc Fokker Dr1-425/17, I want to get it RIGHT this time this being my 4th Dr1. It's almost ready for paint....notice I said almost.
Now if I can just figure out where I need to be in this forum to ask a few questions.
P.S. My wife will be typing for me because I'm to slow on the keys. 'Now listen up!' she talks a little funny so I hope you'll be gentle on her...

Hello Herman,
Welcome to the Aerodrome! You are correct, you will find the folks here generally very helpful and knowledgeable.

As far as where to post you questions, the Flying Models Forum is an obvious choice, but if you're looking for very specific answers to questions regarding details on the prototype that you'd like to reproduce, color schemes, and the like, there are more specific forums for those that will attract help from historians, and folks building full size replicas too.

Have a look at the "Aircraft forum" and it's sub forum "Camoflage and Markings". The Plastic Modeling forum also also a very good place to ask questions. They are "ate up" with this even more than we are.

Good to see you at the Shelton's for Billy and Lisa's going away blast a few weeks back.

For those of you who don't know Herman, he is a consumate builder and flier. His latest Dr1 is a work of art!

Mike

Welcome to the 'Drome!
I too am a DRI fan. I am curious as to how you chose 37% as a scale to model the DRI in. Any particular reason? Mind you, I am not complaining.

I can answer this with no problem.

4 top reasons are:

1. Wheels: size and strength
2. Wings: allows me to make plug-in wings.
3. Materials: nothing special needed all found in local hobby stores.
4. My Van: Any bigger and it wouldn't fit. I would have to buy a trailer.

Welcome Herm

Dear Herm, Don't worry. All you Yankees talk kind of funny. Also FYI, the Forum has an entire section for folks building replica aircraft. Are you using any particulr pilot's color scheme?

Psssssssssssssst if you're doing Werner Voss don't tell anybody what color you are painting the engine cowling or you'll start the Trojan War again and I'm all out of Trojans. VR Scott Price, a.k.a. Roadhog

..Yup..us Yankees do have a special way of talk'en.
Yes I found the section in the forum for Flying Models, I will move over there after I answer your question.
I'm doing MVR's last plane he crashed in.
I noticed after reading some of the posts in here that there is a question about this plane being painted in Factory all Red made special for MVR, but since that is in question I'm still painting original Factory paint, (the green & blue) then I'm painting over with all Red. That's my story and I'm stick'en to it......

Last post here...going over to the scale flying models...Thank you all for welcome.
