Hello from a Lurker
I would like to make the intro as I have been active on this forum for a short while. I am a widowed, retired Chemistry Professor and have been a model builder since age 8 (now 77). My first weeks on the forum have been amazing, with the way in which details are interlocked here and how much information can be gleaned by the use of the mouse. I have built many different flying models over the years with the majority being centered around early aviation and WWI. My current return to the rubber powered free-flight after a layoff of some years has also led me to the 1:48 & 1:72 plastic kits of Roden & Eduard. These provide any hours of restful and fun projects for me to use my hand skills---no more pesky PhD candidates pestering me with their projects. I spend a few hours here each day reading the forums and collecting pictures---thanks for a great site. Doc

Hello Doc,
Seeing you are from NY, I thought you might be interested in this upcoming event for FF scale models in Red Hook, NY...it is the 4th Annual Cole and Rita palen FF Meet. This year the theme is WWI, but there are events for Pioneer, Golden Age and other categories as well. Rules are very loose, and we really just get together to have a few laughs flying. We will also have an area for static models...Plastic or whatever, but preferably early types.
Here is some info on the upcoming event, and there are links to past events on this page as well.

Doc- Great to hear from you and welcome. I have an undergraduate chemistry degree, but all my professors said I should have been a math major, if that tells you anything. There are some great modelers on this site and I hope to see you post some photos of your work soon.

Welcome to the Shooting Match
Dear Doc, We are happy to welcome you to the Forum sir. As you probably know, we have an entire section of the Forum dedicated to the art of modelling. Some of the guys are real experts like Mr. Tim West and Ross Moorhouse. I am sure you will able to glean a lot of useful information in that section.
If you need a reference from some of your pojects, I possess a decent collection of images from WWI aircraft and pilots. I share whatever I have. So let me know if you need anythinf since I just might be able to help. VR, Maj. Scott Price, USAR (Ret.) a.k.a. Roadhog

Greetings Doc....it's always nice to welcome another pensioner.
I used to be one of those pesky candidates until compelled to consider doing something that might produce a bit of income, and ended up designing rocket motors. I've never tried any rubber-powered flying models. I think I'm adicted to the smell of burnt castor oil!

Hello Doc and Welcome to the Aerodrome. I don't think I can tell you anything that you aren't already discovering here, just to enjoy yourself and don't forget to share some pictures of your models (flying and static) and your related experiences.
Best Wishes, FOKKERJ
