About time I introduced myself

Hello,
I have only now got round to saying hello!
I have been interested in aviation since at the age of seven my father let me play where the boats were moored at Old Felixstowe, Suffolk, England... 20 years later I found my favourite boat I clambered over was a Supermarine Southampton hull (saved by RAF Museum).
I am now working on two projects.. one on a replica of one of Maurice Egerton's pre-WW1 machines and the second being a replica of Eric Wakefield's Avro-built modification of a Curtiss Reims Racer with floats.. the first successful seapalne in England (Nov 1911). Gnome-powered it flew on Lake Windermere and we hope it will again in 2011! (10 mph speed limet on lake permitting). We have the original Avro Plan signed by Mr. Parrot to work from and will need a Gnome Omega 50hp for it,,, we are wondering whether to make a replica (or several) engime or refurbish an original... if we have one!
I'll keep you posted on progress of Waterbird and what we will call 'Touch and Go'.

Hi, and welcome.

Nice to hear of your projects. As you probably know, in addition to the speed limit on Windermere there is also a dB limit, which is also what that speed limit was about because of Jetskis and stuff like that. You can of course get a waiver for historic events from the authorities, but I'd get the application in for it now - you know what officialdom and the obsession with being PC is like in the UK these days, so you might have to shout a bit and get some publicity to push it through!

Flight magazine, in 1911, recorded that there were people complaining about the noise... if there are enough holiday makers they'll drown out the dB!
