JESSE O. CREECH
LEXINGTON, Ky., Feb. 21—Funeral services for
Jesse O. Creech, 52, who died Feb. 16 at the Nichols Veterans Hospital, Louisville, were held Wednesday afternoon at the Kerr Brothers funeral home. Burial was in the Lexington cemetery. Mrs. Claude Wheeler of Middlesboro, is a sister of Mrs. Creech.
He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. J. H. Turner of Evarts, Ky., besides his wife,the former Sarah Hukle of Lexington, and two brothers, John Creech of Cleveland, O., and Frank Creech of Morgantown, W. Va.
A native of Harlan County, he was a son of the late William Creech and Martha Short Creech, and was born Aug. 22, 1895. He was educated in the Harlan County schools and at the University of Kansas and Cornell University.
Mr. Creech was a World War I aviation ace, and after the war was credited with shooting down nine German planes. He reached the rank of first lieutenant, and held the Distinguished Service Cross. He had been ill since last Nov. 9 and hospitalized for six weeks.
He was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church, the American Legion, Kentucky Aeronautics Commission, and had held an administrative post with the Works Progress Administration prior to World War II.
Mr. and Mrs. Creech visited Mr. Creech's sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Wheeler of Middlesboro, last August.
