Wop May, Famed Canadian Pilot, Loses Eye Following Infection
Following an infection which threatened his sight,
W. R. "Wop" May, ace Canadian pilot and superintendent for the Canadian Airways, Mackenzie district, has had an eye removed. At Winnipeg, brother fliers recalled that the eye had been injured by a sliver of steel, nearly 10 years ago.
Wop May, a veteran Canadian bush pilot whose flying exploits in bygone years thrilled the nation, is known from coast to coast. He was the hero of many a mercy flight in the north country and achieved additional fame for the part he played in aiding Royal Canadian Mounted police to capture Albert Johnstone [

the mad trapper of Rat River. For his contributions to Canadian aviation he was honored by King George V and received the Order of the British Empire.
For the past two years he has been superintendent of the Mackenzie district for Canadian Airways and as such was not actively engaged in commercial flying as a pilot.
