Ever so slightly OT: Martin MB-2

Hi all,

This is my first biplane model since 1989! I know it's slightly off-topic (by three years), but I thought I'd share my progress.

I'm sorry about the quality of the photos. I'll be taking better ones when it's finished later this week.

The MB-2 represented the first time that I:

1) wet sanded to remove seams and molding flaws,
2) made my own decals (woodgrain decals for the cockpit floor; they turned out great!),
3) used white metal aftermarket parts (Lewis guns and Scarff rings),
4) drilled holes and installed a ton of rigging and control wire lines,
5) repaired broken struts by drilling holes in the ends and putting wire in them,
6) scratch built a few small pieces, the exhausts in particular, and
7) made a base with Woodland Scenics grass.

I just have to finish rigging the alieron control wires on the right wing, paint the figure that'll be starting the left engine, and secure him to the base.

Regards,

Luft, Awesome !!!! Truely !! I especialy appreciate makeing your own wood grain dceals, Smart thinking, Really intuitive with the wire insert repairs. Striking colors really looks good all together. Nice touch with the ruler next to the crewmen. Those ARE SMALL !!!!

Thanks, Mike.

As I said, better images will be posted in a week or so.

I've learned a lot on this build.

Shows what can be done with that kit Drew. Sweet build indeed. I have that kit too, must find it among the cobwebs.

Thanks, Red.

I finished the plane last night and started painting the ground crew figure. I'll finish him after work and put the diorama together.

Then I'm going to drop the model off at my local Hobby Town USA for the model show tomorrow!

Regards,

Excellent work, Lufbery! I wish mine had come out as nice as yours did! I found this one to be a real challenge and rates a 10 on the Frustration Meter! That makes your results even more impressive!

Thanks, Brian.

I'm glad it's done. I'll have some good photos of it soon.
