In 1949, at age 5, I crossed the Atlantic on the General Ballou--a liberty ship of sorts. My father was already in Munich, and the family came over on the ship later. It was full of GIs for the occupation--they slep in the passageways there were so many on board. The General Ballou was also used to bring war brides to the US.
