Caproni Ca.60 in Finland

Hello!

Helsingin Sanomat on 1st April 1921

Italian giant aircraft has arrived to Helsinki

A daring flight across Europe in less than eight hours. 28 pilots and reporters on board.

Late yesterday evening a telegram from Berlin told that a newly build Italian giant aircraft "Rinneplannem" (?) has passed Berlin on it's way to north, to Stockholm or Helsinki.

An hour after the telegram had arrived a triplane airplane giant landed outside Santahamina. Military pilots rushing to the site noticed this to be the aforementioned aircraft designed by Caprioni. The telegram says the plane was completed 1½ weeks ago and it's the world's largest aircraft. It weights 24 and ½ tons and have engines of 3200 horsepowers. The plane has space for fuel, lubricants, 100 passengers, pilots, mechanics and engineers.

The flight through Europe has been calculated to take circa 20 hours so the crew only took 28 pilots and reporters aboard. Our military pilots were welcomed to ships salon where they were served Italian limonade. The commanding offircer engineer Giuseppe Marlini told the ship had to land on ice because of engine troubles.

The aircraft is leaving at 9 am. today back to Italy. The triplane was moved to Kaivopuisto at night. One of the officers who visited the ship has donated us the photo which can been seen at hour office.

Interesting message Mangrove. It is guessing what sort of Caproni actually visited far off Finland, surely not the Caproni Ca.60 triple triplane flying boat. This one flew only very, very shortly and then crashed completely.
I think this will be one of the military Caproni triplanes which were civilian converted after the war.

This is a picture of it when a civilian Caproni triplane visited Amsterdam in 1919.
