stick to it

As part of the troika slowly, oh so slowly, getting Duel Over Douai to press, my main advice is to simply keep at it.

Barrett's advice on using your adventure for a magazine article(s) is veddy good. It's the best way to get attention in the publishing world. And, being the clever type, you can 'recycle' the basic story with 'slants' for different magazines.

cheers, Boom

boom,
thanks for your experienced author's advice your encouragement. i also like your and barrett's ideas about magazine articles, just don't know how i'll find time do write them.

airknocker,
the old rhinebeck section will comprise several pages in the book. OR...i may save most of those photos and make a supplemental book of my days at ora. last year i assembled a separate 15 minute long slide show from just the ora portion of my journey and had the opportunity to share it with my fellow ora friends in new york.

Mom's Log
Day 86
Sunday, August 21
Oregon

Martha flew with Arnold Meads in his Cessna 170 B to Albany, Oregon and on to Grant’s Pass near Ashland, Oregon.

They followed in a formation flight with Patrick Henry in his one-seat, scaled-down red, Fokker Tri-plane that looks just like the Red Baron’s. He built it himself in his barn/workshop from scratch. Martha met stayed at the Henry’s beautiful remote, countryside home, which has more books in it than most libraries! Mrs. Henry’s name is Jane and eleven year-old daughter is Katherine. The Henry’s are very lovely people!

Before day 1

Hi Martha, I like what I am reading in this book column. Looks like you have the attention of the respondents in this thread. They sound like a good assemblage of great aviation people.

My first thought went back to Florida 1988 and the time I said to you, “I think this hitchhiking adventure will snowball" and you called me about a week or so after leaving Orlando and remarked, "Snowball hell, this thing has turned into a blizzard". Hope your momentum grows, for I truly believe it will have good historical information as well as insight into people that helped you accomplish your “HGWT” adventure. Your pictures are out standing.

More to come, looking forward to your next entry.
Later, Lloyd

hi lloyd!

yeah, i remember all that too, and more.

so glad you made it here! you are probably the longest aviation friend i've ever had, since my first semester at KSU in the aviation program. i remember the day i met you in the spring of 1978, when i was instructed to go to your auto body shop and sell you an ad in the KSU airport's airshow program. sure enough, you were glad to support it since it had to do with aviation.

lloyd, you gave me more confidence in my pilot skills than any of my flight instructors ever did - probably due to all those long, heavy duty, night IFR flights i took with you around ohio and new york and all the way to tucson once. you had the reputation for being inspired by the worst flight conditions and were the only sunday pilot at kent airport who would fly every sunday, regardless of the flight conditions. as far as you were concerned, the worse the weather, the better the flying! and i'll never forget how you fell asleep between buffalo and kent in the commander on that dark, cold, stormy, nasty night and told me to wake you up if i wanted you to take over the controls.

i guess it was you who taught me to be (almost) fearless and prepared me for almost anything when it came to flying!

thanks for always being such a great friend throughout the last thirty years, lloyd!

...thank you, Cadet Leader, for giving us this window into your 'excellent adventure'!...I thought I was a "boat guy" but you are causing me to broaden my horizons, as it were...I especially enjoyed the views of Mt. Saint Helens....I was living in Washington when it erupted...
