book: "Piece of Cake" by Derek Robinson

Just though I would let you know about a book I just read. It has to be one of my all time favorites. It's called Piece of Cake and it was written by Derek Robinson. About 680 pages or so, but a quick read. I read it in a few days; that's how good it is. Oh, I guess I should clue you in on the subject. It's about WWII RAF Hurricane pilots. It can be sad at times, since it is a war novel, but the dialog had me laughing throughout the book. Talk about a bunch of clowns! Hope you enjoy!

The BBC special TV movie made from the book "Piece of Cake" was GREAT too! I bought the whole DVD volume series. I highly recommend it as well.

-Made we want to go out and do a "hop" in my DH-60 Gipsy Moth! (Wish I had a "Hurri" or a "Spit" to fly in too!)

Yank44,

Have you read A GOOD CLEAN FIGHT? It is the follow-up novel by Derek Robinson. It has "Fanny" Barton flying P-40's in North Africa. It is good, but not as good as PIECE OF CAKE. I like Derek Robinson. He is very good with irony in his stories.

I've read it again recently.
Its the dialogue that makes it so entertaining. Good book!

I'll have to read the suggested books. Thanks for the tips.

I've read the book several times. One of my favorites.Used to have some VHS tapes from when the series was on PBS but I seemed to have lost them in my moves through the years.Does the DVD set still have Alister Cooke's(sp?) narration.I found that enjoyable as well.

I have the PIECE OF CAKE DVD which was purchased from a PBS DVD/Video catalog a few years ago. The DVD is a 3 disc set (two episodes per disc) and does not have the Alistair Cooke commentary.
