1918- 9th & 23d Infantry

I found this picture that I thought I'd share from my collection:
Front: Signal Corps USA - US Official
Back: Oldest writing to picture; 9th & 23d Infantry coming into Soissoms ? _ _ _ ton? from Chateau -Thierry, after forced march?; Champagne, July 18, 1918

Later writing: The 9th & 23rd Infantry were in the Second Division, "Indianhead Division" This unit was organized in France and it's headquarters established Oct. 26th 1917.
It's major campaigns were in the Verdum and Toul sectors, at Chateau-Thierry, Bellean Wood, the Marne, the Marbache sector, St. Mihiel, the Blanc Mont sector, Champagne, and at the Meuse-Argonne.
The second division, spent 66 days in active sectors and 71 in quiet sectors. It captured 12,026 prisoners and advanced 60 kilometers against the enemy while sustaining 4,478 battle deaths and 17,752 wounded. The 2nd won more Distinguished Service Crosses than any other division in France.
