Looks as if snow has begun to hamper the recovery effort. Maybe enough has been found for an ID.

I have been following this from the day Steve went missing. Since he was from Chicago I have been exposed to most of his exploits and hearing last week about his ID's being found by a hiker them the next day the NTSB confirmed the wreckage was from his plane. From the reports it look like it was a vary bad crash spreading the wreckage over a large area.

I will remember him for his accomplishments and what he brought to aviation. He will be missed.

I totally agree. I enjoyed following his attempts at circumnavigating the world in a balloon. I especially admired the around the world flight in the Global Flyer. Mr Fossett lived in the high country. R.I.P.

I worked in this general area two summers ago at a local lake resort and can attest to the mountainous, rugged, wooded terrain in which he went down and am not surprised it took someone stumbling across debris for the wreckage to be found. Not a good area to be searching from the air or ground for anything specific!
