New Powder Puff Derby documentary

A few shots from this past weekend and filming for a new documentary about the 1929 Powder Puff Derby, taken by Joe Santana (owner/pilot of the green/cream Travel Air) at the Golden Age Air Museum at Grimes Airport, Pennsylvania--

Starting line, Monocoupe (Phoebe Omlie won the light plane class in the '29 derby), Fleet (Jessie Kieth-Miller in '29), Travel Air 4000 (flown by several pilots in '29), Speedwing Travel Air (Louise Thaden won overall PP Derby), and Waco (Gladys O'Donnell 2nd place in '29)

The two Travel Airs

Bird biplane in background, we used it for a camera ship, along with a Breezy and a Cub, and the Waco.

Getting ready to go up in the Travel Air to buzz a Model A Ford, simulating Pancho Barnes' unfortunate close enounter with a car at one stop.

See Rag Wing Derby - A Documentary About The 1929 First Women's Transcontinental Air Race for more info on the film-

More pics

This was a lot of fun and a great opportunity to highlight the 1929 race. Easily the most fun I have had in the Fleet since I've had it....

1) Myself & Monica Hoffman, who represents Amelia Earhardt at the shoot and in her one-gal traveling show about Amelia's life.

2) Colorful lineup. Monocoupe 90 at the head of the line.

3) More panoramic view of the lineup shot under the tail of the Breezy. The Travelairs in particular were beautifully cared for.

Couple More

Two more shots from the Pancho Barnes crash recreation. We didn't actually have to break Joe Santana's Travelair to get the shot. Baldeagle failed to mention that it was windy enough that they made four passes at it to get a usuable shot....the Cub - which was being used as the camera plane here - was getting slapped around pretty well.
