Ooops, sorry. Just saw that Barrett had already posted this news in off-topic a few days ago.

Thank you, Immo! It's good to have this information here for those who don't go to Off Topic that often. May he rest in peace amongst the other old eagles who have preceded him.

Thank You Immo

I had not heard of Günther Rall passing away. A most remarkable fellow and of that there is no doubt. My father once met the great airman and was impressed with the genial dignity and air of capability that Rall exuded.

Just wondering, but, would that make Erich Rudorffer the living airman with the highest number of credited victories, that being, 222?

I was fortunate enough to meet Gunther Rall at Oshkosh in 2000. One of the larger aviation art companies had sponsored his appearance and he was there signing autographs. I couldn't believe there were only 4 people at the table! I have a signed portrait and a few other prints now...

BTW - Bob Hoover was also there. I wandered past and saw the elderly gentleman sitting by himself. I had nothing for him to sign so I got him to sign my shirt! He was a little amused...
