Any special aviation award (for would be aviators like me)

Im curious,is there any awards for aviators of youth who would happen to design and build an aircraft?

Nah, it's an under-appreciated venture. You won't get any credit for it until you're much older, unfortunately. And even then you'll wish that you'd chased girls and just bought an airplane and gone flying.

Sorry, but that's the way it goes.

There is some benefit when you're looking for a job, and in college you might be able to talk your adviser into giving you some credit hours for it. There's more benefit because you'll get to know some cool people. But all these things just facilitate your path and make you a better person. For happiness, go flying. Buy an airplane. Chase the girls. Find a beach somewhere and learn to surf. Go sailing, now there's a character-building activity for you, and the girls like that too.

Willi, just a suggestion. You appear to have a keen interest in designing and building aircraft. Why not get involved with model aviation? Many of today’s aviation notables, such as Burt Rutan, started out building and flying model airplanes. Check out the AMA. Academy of Model Aeronautics You could also try to contact radio control clubs in your area. (The AMA site should have a club listing or finder.) The AMA sanctions many contests if your interested in winning honors. There is also scholarship money available. One young man, in the club I belong to, won AMA scholarship money he used towards an aerospace engineering degree. He now has a nice job with a major aviation manufacturer. Ask the guys in the RC Model forum here. Or check out the websites RCUniverse and RCGroups. Plenty of information and help there.

Thats a shame

It seems the only way to get such an award is by finding new ways of air control or managing to get a manned-powered helicopter 10 meters up.
There should be awards to those who designed and flew their own machines and other awards for those who at least tried (arm flapping don't count).

That would be fun!
