Guess who was responsible for keeping the motorcycles running in recent years? Scott Mackenzie, his brother volunteer Gary Mackenzie, Bob Mackenzie, Ken's son Ryan Cassens, Nick Ulfik, and their friends. Guess who either got fired, not called back, or quit as volunteers?
... Tell us, Jim Kick, why were you so adament to fire Ken and Scott? Didn't you ever consider how many others you would lose by your prejudice decisions?
Forgive my previous understatement. I should have said,
...it would probably be hard to find a good mechanic for a WWI era collection - especially after you've fired the really good ones who knew all the idiosyncracies and tricks to keeping all those rare machines running and have alienated the volunteers who willingly assisted them!

Clearly, no. I still don't believe it could possibly have been the Board's intention to clear the place of dozens and dozens of staff and volunteers. Guess you shouldn't throws rocks into a cave unless you know what's sleeping in there.

And why are you persecuting Dick King?
They are probably looking for new sources of revenue, i.e. hangar rent from Richard King.

Does one hangar space equate to all the legal fees that the Aerodrome is going to be paying out?
Apparently they are not thinking ahead, but that is not new.

Ever see an enraged dog? If there is nothing to vent its anger on, it will turn on itself by attacking its paws. Not only is it an interesting emotional response, but is likewise disturbing. Disturbing because if you are close enough it may turn its rage on you. Anyway, the BOD seems to have turned its rage on the Old Guard and did a fair job of it. Don't be surprised that Bill King might be their next target or even Dan Taylor. The likelihood is slim unless they figure they can cover those seats with other pilots. Now it has been aired how CW likes to toot his own horn by degrading others who he doesn't even know. With GD out of the picture, my guess is CW will take the spot light. Any one know about his qualification as a mechanic? I mean the legal ones, as in certified? I know about the Tripe down south. Is there anyway we can get a written statement about the allegations of that plane? Might make powerful evidence before the State (as in Palmquist).

Gotta go, got a car show to attend.

SteveS - I have been working on motorcycles since I was 15, more than 35 years. I will catch up to you about that later.

Oh yeah, it is good to see so many in fine form on this thread this morning. Y'all had me worried yesterday.

Cheerio and Salute!

Here's a link to Glenn Torrance's photos of the site---things look pretty empty there, even on the Friday before the show. Plus the modeler's area didn't look as teeming as I've seen it in years past. That's too bad, since it looked like a perfect day for a model meet.

Talking Jamboree Pics

Thanks for the link to the the photos. This was my first Jamboree and I enjoyed all the models immensely. The flight of the ORA Caudron G.3 was the longest I ever saw. If you haven't already, be sure to post that link on the other Rhinebeck thread.

Salute!

Wink No Show!

I attended the airshow at Oneida County Airport, Marcy N.Y. this past Sunday. And just as I had guessed - ORA was nowhere in sight! This away show was listed on their website as one of the shows they would be attending. Obviously, no one at ORA has any interest whatsoever in promoting the aerodrome or Cole Palens dream and vision for early aviation history. In my opinion, the crew that now controls and operates ORA are just a huge disappointment to everyone who loves old airplanes, and mostly to Cole himself!
Also, the pics of the WONZ Sopwith Camel are beautiful indeed, its too bad though that you can make out GD in the cockpit. If you look real close, it looks like the Camel is being piloted by a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle!!!! Go back a few years also to an issue of Flight Journal magazine, the cover has a beautiful shot of the ORA Camel with the aerodrome in the backround. Who is piloting it? You guessed it - the great GD, again looking like a TMNT.
As far as him being the most expierienced Camel pilot in the world - who knows for sure? However, he - or any of those antique airplane pilots - are NOT expierienced COMBAT pilots. If it were possible to match the great GD against a Camel Combat pilot from WW1, it would be very safe to say that GD wouldn't stand a chance! I know that doesn't really have anything to do with the troubles at ORA, but I wanted to get it off my chest.
Anyway, remember all, ORA needs to be returned to its former glory - so it can carry on in " the Cole Palen tradition".

Happy Landings,

PIET

Wink GD's other planes

That is a good question. Where is his(?) Stampe & Howard? I have also seen him in the past tooling around in a Cessna 310, white with blue trim. Any ideas on this one also? Is it his, or was he just BORROWING it from time to time. Just curious, thats all!

Happy Landings,

PIET

Does GD store any of his a/c at ORA? If so, should he not also be paying hangar fees?
