Good to hear ... !

I think the Stampe is great but , in my opinion, I would rather see the Camel and Dolphin flying first. I feel there is more PR value it them for the Aerodrome.

Also very good to see some activity and restorations going on, not all doom and gloom at the airfield. I was starting to worry about it shutting down.

Cheers,
WF2

Does anyone know the status of the Curtiss Fledgling or Monocoupe that were sent out?

Hi Bob,

The Curtiss Fledgling did return last year to the Aerodrome. If you click back one page to my post (#3597) showing the picture of the Stampe, you can see the Fledgling's fuselage sitting to the right. I do believe that the wings are in the racks behind the Stampe. I did think that the Fledgling was going to return in a more complete state and with all the other projects underway, I don't imagine we will see it flying anytime soon.

Salute,
Steve

A friend of mine is working on the Monocoupe, in fact I made a set of rudder cables for it a few days ago, so progress is being made. The fuselage is near to being ready to cover, I think he's waiting for more funds from ORA for materials before tackling the wing.

Other than the installation of a non-working OX-5 in a static aircraft back in December, the aerodrome hasn't really let the public know what kind of work has been going on during the Winter months. Has there been any progress on the Camel or the Dolphin? Will they be on the flightline this Summer? Maybe someone who paid to subscribe to the new version of "Rotary Ramblings" can share with the rest of us everything thats been accomplished since the last airshow?

Unhappy A Music Program?

Just saw on the "Hudson Valley Bluegrass Association" website that on 10-12-2008, ORA was featuring a music program before its world famous airshows! The "SHAKE SUGAREE BAND", which performs hillbilly -jazz - prairie rock(?) performed from 11:30 am to just before showtime. Can anyone out there confirm that this event took place? And if it did, what the hell is going on down there????? Live bands at ORA!!!! If this is true, Cole & Reetie must be doing FULL POWER INVERTED FLAT SPINS in there graves! Lord, help us!!!!

Angry live music....

yes, I can hear it now....."...and don't forget that the big reunion show
featuring Foghat, Styx and REO Speedwagon kicks off at 2 PM, right next
to our new Flanders Field Flume ride...we figure that'll take your minds off
of the pitiful state we're in........"

nexstar, don't be so quick to criticize. i think the right kind of live music that reflects the nostalgic atmosphere of ORA might be just what they need to fill in the gaping holes where there used to be a continuous airshow and lots of entertainment on the ground.

Thumbs up

I loved the music at ORA in the past. I remember a fellow that walked around playing the bagpipes, when he played "Amazing Grace" at the end of the show everyone had tears in their eyes, and not forgetting the German Um-Pa-Pa band.

It really added to the nostalgia one feels there. Would love to see it again.

Wish they (ORA) would update their web site, .... geeeee guy's! Can't be that hard to do.

Don't be fooled into believing that the Waco was a winter project. The Waco had the engine installed much earlier than December. The engine was incomplete but at least it’s off the floor (or in NZ).

I wouldn’t be too overly confident that the Camel or Dolphin will be flying anytime soon. I remember reading that the Fokker D.VII needed to have its wings recovered. I would think that that would be a priority.

I think we all are getting antsy now that the warmer weather is coming. As much as I'd like to see some major improvements in the show and collection, I have to be realistic in that I don't see it happening. As long as things don't get worse. Too many crashes over the last couple years.

There has been a couple of different musical acts over the last couple years that I’ve noticed.

Here’s a pix of the band that played on 10/11/08

They were quite good. I did feel bad for them as they were set up north of the tower and pretty much played to empty benches. I’ve noticed that people don’t show up as early as they used to and the band has to be off the field before the show. The music was piped through the PA system but until I walked north along the flight line I had no idea the music was live!
Salute,
Steve
