I talked to my brother Dave King on the phone last night. He had just been officially fired by Tom Daly, words to the effect of "not asked to come back". Jim Hare got the same treatment the day before.

He has been quoted as saying "Someday, all this will be mine". I believe this quote was said sometime around the late 1990's.

Words cannot adequately express how upset I am that Jim Hare and Dave King are "not asked to come back." One volunteer has said that "Jim Hare is the heart of the Aerodrome, without him the place is finished." Jim's enthusiasm, humor and lifeforce continued the air shows in Cole Palen's tradition. Jim gave so much of himself to ORA for many, many years, and his announcing the shows gave everything spirit. His list of jobs is endless: Air Show manager, announcer, performer, mentor, volunteer, public relations, writer, and many more tasks that people never realized.

Dave King made the Aerodrome so much fun with his clever wit and joyful exuberance. He flew the Triplane with grace and elegance, and played the part of the Black Baron with a true aristocractic bearing. He literally grew up at ORA, starting at 7 and pouring 35 years of his heart and soul into the place. His job list includes pilot, mechanic, performer, fireworks expert, historian, ground show coordinator, volunteer, and so much more.

To me both men are more then friends, they are brothers to all us who worked along side them. My heart goes out to them both, and I offer them any support that I can give them.

Curtiss Jenny,

I couldn't have said it better myself.
Sad news indeed.
I guess we kinda figured this was due to happen. I already have my opinions at what I think will happen show-wise and in the future but I will save them and comment after I visit this year. God, I hope I'm wrong.

They finally revised the website for the season. You all might want to take a look.

I'd give anything to be able to add to the "Wishlist"!

Salute,
Steve

I know the first thing I'd add to the Wishlist: To have back all the long-time ORA volunteers, staff and performers who've been given the boot.

Speaking of wishlists... am I being picky or is there actually a legitimate reason for the Aerodrome asking for a big screen tv?

Hmmm. They probably need something to do when they're not flying the helicopter.

I would think (hope) that it would be used for some demostration or learning purpose. Maybe up in the museum hanger could be a nice. Maybe run a promotional film loop telling visitors how wonderful it is to be a museum member and be a "part" of the Aerodrome. <_<

Given the fact the large screens are more prone to problems, a nice 30 incher would probably better and last longer. Hell, if things were different, I might even donate one.

Anyone been there yet? I wonder what is going on with the "Spirit" much less anything else.

Salute,
Steve

Yesterday (Saturday June 5th) I saw the rides plane flying. It's the first time I have seen it in the air this season.
I also taked with a freind of mine that is a car mechanic who told me that he was asked if he wanted to volunteer to work on the cars at the Aerodrome. He declined.
I also saw Jim Hare on Memorial day, and he said that he has a job that he likes and allows him to to be around for the kids in the morning and afternoon. So don't worry about Jim.
That's all the new info I know.
