Maybe this is the time to push the public aspect of this situation. I've got 100 bucks that I'll be happy to send to a local bank for a 'Save Old Rhinebeck Airdrome ' fund. If a couple of the local forumites will set up an account and get the word out, it might help bring this to light locally. Use the money for whatever can help and any left over, donate to ORA after the current Board is gone.

World Cruiser, thanks for your offer, I would be willing to pitch in as well.

I'll put in a day's gross wages. Now, who's gonna open and manage the account?

As for Geneseo, at least a couple of people, probably more, from up there are following this forum, and are very disturbed about how the Aerodrome is being run.

Not to get off the subject, but does Geneseo still host the flea market fly-in like they did back in the late 1970 - early 80's?
Bet lots of stuff traded back and forth to ORA at that Flea-Fly-In. Anybody know?

I have a question for Matty B - Can you describe what acts were done at the Saturday show? Also, where there any fireworks? As none of the local people heard any and are wondering.

I was thinking about the copter rides. I wonder if the Airshow ins. covers it, I wonder if it is certified for passenger hopping and finally I wonder what % of the revenue that is generated is going into museum coffers - I remember that mr.daley and freinds were questioning the reciepts from the food concessions..... afraid they were not getting their(ORA)fair share.I wonder if he is applying this same standard to himself.
I am in for the legal fund. Some local businesses might be more than happy to contribute also. We definetly should not be putting all of our eggs in the State basket.
Marc Mollinaro has been trying hard to open a dialogue with mr. daley. He is getting frustrated by the lack of response. He is taking this situation very seriously so I don't think we really need to flood him with e-mail.

The other thread just brought my attention to the ORA aircraft list, their manufacture dates and their historic eras.
http://www.oldrhinebeck.org/aircraft/airli...Aircraft%20List
Guess they'll have to update their list to include,"Helicopter 1947."
Guess they'll have to add a whole new era to the list, too.
Guess they'll have to revise Cole's original mission statement, too.

Mid-Hudson is still planning on the Jamboree taking place. I have this on good authority. I hope so because our room is booked and I will be buying plane tickets soon.
The Jamboree weekend is certainly one of the largest weekends at the aerodrome of the year. But I was never completely sure is was one of the largest MONEY weekends of the year. I say this only as an attendee over the last 10 years. I know the gift shop does a wonderful business that weekend and I imagine that a number of memberships are sold. But there are no rides so that is not a revenue source. Mid-Hudson gets $20/pilot for the weekend. They also allow the pilot to bring in a helper. So that's 2 in the door all weekend for $20. Mid-Hudson, I believe, keeps every dime of the money they collect. They also have a raffle that they keep the money from.
The concession stands go great guns all weekend. But I was told that the money from the concession stands supported the stands and none of it went back to the aerodrome.
I guess the draw of lots of models etc brings extra folks to the gate and that's where the money comes from?
I know there are many long time volunteers, past board members etc here. I would love to know if this weekend is really as good as it seems it could be financially for the aerodrome.
See you in September!
Doug Jones

Actually the manufacture of that paticular helicopter is 1965, the design is from 1947. It is most noted for use in the Korean War, as in M.A.S.H.
As for the money, there has been a double standard in that regard for quite some time. There was not enough people to pay the young types needed for ground support, but there was enough to pay hourly rates for two new pilot trainees brought in three years ago. Former managers and directors had to account for every cent they spent, if even allowed to do so for just the bare basics. I'll bet it is not the same way now.
