Wink Fe8

The FE8 is ON LOAN to the Smithsonian. I don't remember the exact arrangement, but it will return back to ORA. Cole Palen and Karl Schneide did the loan agreement, and I believe that some restoration work will be done on it in exchange for the loan.

There will be some photos accompanying a history section of the Aerodrome soon on SaveOldRhinebeck.org . If you have any great photos of the past air shows, ground show, and people, please scan them in at 72 dpi and email to either information or webmaster@saveoldrhinebeck.org.

ACC Cadet Leader's suggestion to link that section to this thread is a great idea! Post your photos on this thread with a little write-up, so that someone who has viewed the new site can continue to this thread for the stories behind the photos.

Eric is right. It was "Whispering Willy (the Happy Heiny)," kind of an inside joke I would bet. Dad 's the quiet type.

Ooh, I just love that Lucky No. 7! Who was aviating her that day, tazbat? Did he take her above the treeline? If I'm not mistaken, the wing warping loses its effectiveness at a hundred feet altitude.

The pilot was Dan Taylor.
Wing warping was of course common on many aircraft including the Eindekker which had a ceiling of around 11,500 ft.. I am sure the Bleriot ceiling was considerably less, but more than 100 feet.

addition: No, he didn't take it above the tree line, but did fly over half the airfield length.

Salute!

Here are a couple more pics from the Jamboree. If you go on this website it has a considerable amount of information on the Bleriot XI. http://www.ancientalley.com/ancient/...ck/bleriot.htm

Salute!

Thumbs up Wow, Tazbat!!

That's a beautiful and informative link of yours on the Bleriot XI!! And two more lovely pics! The one on the left with the village of Barley-duc in th upper background has an interesting graphic quality to it that reminds me of a row of medals on a military uniform.

Wonderful contributions!

Wink Wing Warp

Why does the wing warp lose effectiveness when it reaches 100 ft. of altitude?

Howdy folks

I have just been following in the background for awhile. So many well thought out entries. That POSITIVE energy is back! This thread is really working! I don't have much to add except to say that I am truly proud to be a part of this group.
Blue skies !

Piet - re: wing warp - Maybe it just loses SOME of its effectiveness when it gets out of ground effect. I don't know - just a guess.

piet & rc,

Because the wax melts if she flies too close to the sun.

I believe further recommendations for Lucky No.7 are to keep her just above the treetops and power back in the turns.
