For those of you who haven't seen it - watch this short video produced about ORA and the Spirit project. Hear about the true spirit of ORA first-hand from Bill, Scott, Tom & Ken. This forum seems like a great place for it- great memories. Each time I watch it, I smile.

LOOKING THROUGH MY COLLECTION OF ORA THINGS, I FOUND A COPY OF" SPANDAU AVIATION NEWS" SUMMER OF 1965 PRICE $.25 OR 2 YEARS FOR $1.00. IN SMALL PRINT "THE OFFICAIAL PUBLICATION OF THE OLD RHINE BECK AERODROME".
WHAT A MARVEL OF PUTTING PEN TO PAPER. THE BOYS SURE HAD FUN IN THOSE DAYS, WITH ARTICALS SUCH AS, " MF+CP+THE C3". A YOUNG TYPES 1ST TIME AT THE CONTROLS OF THE AERONCA. BUT IN A TYPICAL AERODROME MANNER ,IT WAS THRU THE EYES OF THE C3."AH, THE TALL DUMB ONE IS GOING TO PROP,IS HE? WHAT'S THE MATTER? GETTING TIRED? A " TO BE CONTINUED" STORY ABOUT EDDIE RICKETYBACKER AND DUG CAMPBELL. A MATTR OF FACT STORY OF COLE TAKING 3 DAYS TO FLY THE 1912 THOMAS PUSHER TO LONG ISLAND(100 MILES OR SO) ENDING WITH,"ALL THIS MIGHT SEEM A WORTHLESS STUNT BUT NOT IN THIS CASE, FOR COLE PALEN APPEARED ON THE T.V. SHOW" I'VE GOT A SECRET" AND WON FAME AND $150 FOR HIS EFFORT. I HAVE 16 MM TO VIDEO FILM CLIPS OF THIS PILGRIMAGE, IT WAS A MONUMNTAL EFFORT.
AN UDATE OF DICK KING'S PUP PROJECT,A TOUR THROUGH THE BARN, AND "THE AERO NEWS" ABOUT COLE BEING AWAY WITH " THOSE MAGNIFICENT MEN" PROMOTION.
WHAT IS GREAT ANDSO IN TRADITION WITH THE ORA IS THAT AFTER MOST EVERY ARTICAL IT TELLS THE READER TO "STOP BY THE AERODROME, SOMEONE WILL ALWAYS BE THERE. IS THIS STIIL TRUE????
I HOPE SOMEONE OUT THERE CAN BETTER ENLIGHTEN THE WORLD JUST HOW MUCH THE SPANDAU NAME INFILTRATED THE ORA.

PS, I DID NOT GET THE EXPRESS WRITTEN PERMISSION FROM MIKE FISHER,EDITOR, AIR SHOW ANNOUNCER, AND C3 DRIVER TO REPRODUCE VITAL SPOTS FROM HIS WONDERFUL MAG. AND LOOK BACK AT THE GOOD OLD DAYS, I HOPE HE DOEN'T HAVE A LAWYER.

i looked into it. it was a mark goodman BILL TODMAN PRODUCTION THEY DID ALL THE GAME SHOWS. I THINK THEY SOLD TO TED TURNER AND THEN SOLD TO SOME OTHER COMPANY THAT WANTED ALOT OF MONEY FOR A COPY. I CAN'T REMEMBER ALL DETAILS.
BUT MAYBE SOMEONE SHOULD PURSUE THE MATTER AS THE THOMAS PUSHER EXISTS AND THE FILM OF THE FLIGHT EXISTS. IT WOULD BE GREAT TO HAVE A COPY OF THE SHOW TO SEE HOW COLE REALLY EARNED THAT $150
I HEARD COLE TELL THE STORY ABOUT THE SHOW AND HIS BRIEF T.V. CAREER. IT SEEMS THAT AFTER HE WENT THRU THE SECRET ITERROGATION BY THE PANEL OF CELEBRITIES, THE SHOW WENT TO A COMMERCIAL. COLE WAS TO CLIMB INTO THE THOMAS, IT HAD BEEN DISASEMBLED AND RE-ERECTED IN THE STUDIO, AND EXPLAIN THE WORKINGS OF THE FLYING MACHINE. AS I RECALL , HE SAID BECAUSE OF STAGE FRIGHT AND AND THE BLARING LIGHTS OF STARDOM WHEN THE SHOW RESUMED, HE GOT HUNG UP IN ALL THE BRACING WIRES AND TRIPPED. THEY DIRECTOR WENT IMMEDIATLY TO ANOTHER COMMERICAL AND THUS COLE CLAIMED THAT'S THE REASON HE NEVER ATTAINED T.V. STARDOM. OFCOURSE, MICHAEL JUBILEE SPANDAU WAS ONBOARD THE WHOLE TIME.
