Mugwump

The Mugwump can be found in the back of one of the 3 museum hangers. It is in one piece and, theoretically, still runs.

When one just won't do.

I think I remember there being more than one "Mugwump".

I’m almost positive this is the “other” one I remember in the rear of the Pioneer Quonset hut.

Easier to recognize is the one behind the Scripps Booth in the rear of the WW1 Quonset hut

And thanks, I never knew they had a formal name.

Salute,
Steve

Yes it is. Posting anywhere in off topic will not add to your count.
So go topside and do some posting!

I finally upgraded my scanner with one that will talk to my "Vista" system and it will be nice to add some more old pix to this thread myself.

Salute,
Steve

Thanks Steve, I finally started to look at the beginning of this thread and I got up to page 31. Some really awesome photos and some great stories!! On post #17, it was nice to see the pre photo shot for the postcard with all ORA's Aeroplanes lined up on the field. AAC Cadet I believe asked who were the names of people in the photo and Bill Hammond answered, when he came to my name, he wrote " Long Island (?) son and Father (Stan). I got a laugh. I can't believe that photo was taken over 27 years ago. Also I saw two other photos of myself on #286 & # 288 , one photo was of me holding the ladder in the Renault that I stole from the announcer's tower. Cole & David were also in the Renault. My Dad took a similar photo. The other was a photo of a huge explosion in front of Fifi's with the armored car, looks like either during the bombing raid, " The Hotel De Paris" was already hit. I am on the left side of the photo. We all tried to get as close to the bombs to put on the best show we could. After running around on the field during the " Bombing Raid" after some time & experience , we could see the Bombs falling and by instinct, know the trajectory and get a pretty good idea how close they would hit!!

One time when I was riding in the Armored Car with David driving, one of the falling Bombs came so close, like I said, we would know if it would be close or not but on that particular Sunday this bomb was heading for the Armored Car. I believe in the back where I was standing was a wooden hatch. Well I knew that this was going to be a VERY CLOSE "hit"! I closed the hatch just in time and ducked and the whole inside filled up with Char Coal power. The bomb hit the Armored Car about 2 inches away from the hatch or about 15 inches from my head ! It was a good thing I closed the hatch and I'm 100% sure that David remembers that!!

I Think I lost some of my hearing from the Very loud explosions and hundreds of concerts that I attended over the years!

Just one of my stories.

BTW, I would like to know if somebody who has those photos of me, I would love to have a copy of them in full resulution.

Steve, since you brought up scanners, I would like to purchase a really good Photo printer / Scanner. Does anybody recommend one? TIA

Well I finally read all the 100 pages on this forum!! I found it to be very interesting + I learned some things that I didn't know. I saw a few photos of myself that I would like to get in full resolution if possible. I think AAC Cadet asked where Cole lived in Florida, I believe Aerodrome Kid wrote that he lived in Boca Raton but I believe he lived a bit North in Delray! We went to visit him at his home in Florida. Cole , Rita , my Dad and myself went out for dinner at this really cool Rib place with a live bluegrass band playing.

I read this article from CONTROL COLUMN and I just wanted to know if this was true, it is a small article on the Albatross. In the article it states, Under it's German Air Force crosses it bears " Made in Delray Beach.

I saw this happen and I would like to add what I saw and remember.

I believe that, rather than crash into the trees, he deliberately flew it into the ground at the base of the trees. Can anyone provide more details?

Throughout the incident Cole maintained his usual smiling sang-froid. He was simply happy that nobody was hurt.

The first photo shows the aircraft where it came to rest. The second and third have Rick beside the aircraft. The fifth clearly shows the extent of the damage. Note the shape of the fuselage.
As Andy wrote about the accident, I'd like to add my 2 cents.
Rick intended to fly the Hanriot and not just taxi it. I was the last wing runner on the South East part of the field by the gas pump. The Hanriot should have been on the ground by the time it was by me but something happened and he took his hand off one of the controls and because it is/was a tail heavy plane, it shot straight up like a rocket above me. I'd never seen it at that height, he stabalized it. At the altitude it was, it was impossible for him to land and I thought that he was going to fly it around but I believe in the confusion, he had shut off the gas line , he took out the power line for the Aerodrome and crashed unharmed into the lower trees. I was the first at scene. Just trying to add some more detail of what happened!!
