One of ORA's newest supporters, my daughter Kerry standing to the rear of the Spad 7. This is a good shot that shows the difference over the years of the treeline, vegetation width of the runway, and the village. It's lookin pretty empty back there! (2003)

Salute,
Steve

the photo of the fledgeling flying over the denuded hill reminded me of a time not too long ago.
the authorities imposed the 600' no fly zone to the runway.in order to comply, cole palen hired a d-8 bulldozer to literally move the mountian.
alas, rhinebeck rock proved too determined and instead of giving up,
cole turned it into an act.
faintly one can see in steve's great photo structues on the hill. one being a bedouin type tent. whatever ground crew that was availble, would be desert sheiks in cohorts with the black baron to capture the dear ole trudy truelove from sir percy.
being one of these raisulian rascals, complete with waving simitars.
and flowing garments was as much as a delight/suprise as it must have been to the audience.
i regret to say that this act was as short lived as cole's "baron gets the fish" episode.

Ok here goes. My Dad took this picture in April of 63. Mike Fischer(sp?)holding the tale. That might be his Dad in the cockpit. If this works - more to come.

It really worked !
That is Mike holding the "tail". Must have been a stuck key on my keyboard.....
The pic is B&W.
The prop on that thing is huge! Was the engine a Clerget'? I think It was restored by Gorden with 230 Bentley but never flown. That would have been spectacular.
