Morane damage after it threw a rod/piston (can't remember) while Cole was making a pass. I can recall watching thru binoculars as Cole flew by and seeing something fly out of the cowling as I heard a sharp *crack*. The aircraft was about even with the Curtiss hangar when it happened. Cole was able to put it down on the end of the field just barely, he ran into the trees on the north end, luckily the first line were young saplings and just bent over causing little impact damage. It was a very fine display of skill on Cole's part to get it slowed down and on the ground before he ran out of room.

-Spad13, thanks for sharing the picture of the two triplanes in formation. I wish I would have been alive to see that.

Great photos, all! The scenes of the 'drome during winter are very unique, this is the first time I've seen photos with snow on the runway. Just seeing the New Standard running out makes me feel the sharp air in my nostrils.
Thanks guys!

I thought Cole always went to Florida in the winter. Was that a tradition that he started later? Fab pics and captions, Aerodrome Kid!

The dreaded head-on pass. To the audience on the ground, this always looked too close for comfort! Notice the "debris" floating off the plane.

The low level fly-by pass the audience was always a crowd pleaser. Cole Palen and Andrew King gave us many memories to cherish with their spectacular flying!
