Always wanted to jump for the opening ceremonies at Old Rhinebeck. Then I figured out that I must have been nuts to jump out of a perfectly good airplane.* To me the best part of sky diving was climbing out on the wing anyway. Worry about leaving kids fatherless made me quit. (1993)

So, how many times did you jump out of perfectly good airplanes before you wised up? And is that you in in the photo at the opening ceremony?

Steve and Lyle,
So, was the Fokker D.VIII's rotary engine even louder than Cole's Sopwith Camel's rotary? That's the loudest cracklin engine I've ever heard!!

Two short of a dozen, Yea I wish it was me! I used to jump mainly on Long Island. At the time it was only 45 bucks a jump. Less than a good night out drinking. Jack Schliech was going to let my jump over Galway, but honestly I didn't trust his chutes. He refused to go first! My girlfiend (now my wife) used to get really sick when I jumped. Thats when I knew my jumping days were numbered. I do have photos somewhere.....I am missing a box with ORA and motorcycle pix. I'm racking my brain trying to find them. Lots of good stuff in there!
Salute,
Steve

Oh, Yea!
The 160hp Gnome to me sounded much more like a chainsaw that a rotary. Very sharp and very LOUD. Kinda like the Sopwith but on steriods.
Salute,
Steve

Was Jack's offer to dump you out of- I mean, to let you jump out of one of his Meyers OTWs?

I think you got it right the first time. More like the late Kenny Schliech was just going to roll his and let me fall out. More fun that way....for them anyway.
Salute,
Steve
