If we get the Jenny, our investments are sure to appreciate at a higher rate than mutual funds or savings accounts.

Jim Bruton $500.00.. free rides, but no parachute (1/2 share)
Curtiss Jenny $0........ free rides for relentless commitment to save ORA
AAC Cadet Leader $1000.00 free rides w/parachute (full share)

Whos next?

Eric,
Not that you're going to need a parachute, but you never know, ya know?

All share holders not only receive documentation of ownership but, free rides as well. We give Ken as pilot and restorer "x" number of shares (as decided), for his work and maintenance. Once the Aerodrome is back in good hands, we send the plane there to be used in air shows and for giving rides to generate capital. If the plane is ever sold, each share holder will receive payment for their share(s).

Personally, I can't afford a whole share, but could swing a half one. Some folks might want more than one share. If this sounds like a plausible deal, then I say we put it on some other threads and spread the offer around. The more shares sold the better.
Again, brilliant idea Tazbat! So, are you gonna add your name to the list? You, too Eric.

If we're looking at working this out with the seller at some future point, should it not sell on eBay, I'll be able to contribute more.

Auction closes tomorrow, current bidding is at $18,100 and the reserve has not yet been met. I think we're probably looking at $20,000 - $25,000. It would be interesting to know if this aeroplane is or has been listed for sale anywhere else.

Tazbat - has the seller returned your email?

Jenny

It probably belongs to the Morozowskis, caveat emptor. If it does no way they'll let it go for less than $50K

That Jenny has been on Ebay several times in the past year. I think at one time it had a buy it now price of $100,000! From the photo's it appears the fuselage is in good shape, but the wings and tail look a little gray, maybe it is a heavy layer of dust. More than likely though they are only good for patterns. If that is the case it might cost another $50 to $75,000 to hire someone to restore it, time and materials. Unless the engine was recently tore down and inspected, add at least another $10,000 to overhaul it. Total cost in the area of $150-$200,000! Sorry to be a wet blanket, just some of the realities of restoring these old birds.

I don't think I'm alone in the emotional reaction I have to seeing an old aeroplane in that condition - especially a Jenny. We've all heard the stories of how many were piled at the ends of a runways and burned, and I'm sure we've all got the same horrible visions of it. It's hard to know there's one out there and nobody is doing anything with it - seems like a crime. Jim's right on - this is how we know it's important to us.
