It would be a pleasure to see the photos of ORA and the "Good Old Days."
Salute!

Dr-1's FOREVER!
BobGhee... I couldn't agree with you more. My favorite WW1 a/c has always been the Fokker Tripe. And yes, even with all the troubles at ORA it is still fitting that its Dr-1 takes to the sky on a regular basis. Forgive me, I wasn't trying to nitpick you on the modern engine scenario, as long as any Dr-1 is able to take to the air, I myself don't care what kind of powerplant it has. A Tripe in the air is a BEAUTIFUL thing!!!! Just wanted to clarify that even though some Dr-1 replicas have more powerful engines, the performance of the a/c isn't changed a whole lot.
Also, the latest issue of WW1 AERO has a BEAUTIFUL Dr-1 replica on its cover. Even though it has a modern Lycoming, it is definitely an eye opener!!!!
Happy Dr-1 landings,
NxStr7

no problem, nextstar7...
my initial post was for a forum user who asked if the triplane currently
flying at RAM was Cole's original machine. I should have stated that it
flies with twice the horsepower rating ,not twice the power...
The latest issue of WW1 AERO also has some shots of the Triplanes
flying in NZ, and a site called airliners.net contains some gorgeous
color pix of these same aircraft...

Really? I'm sorry I missed it. I've enjoyed the Avro in the show from years past and was hoping to see it fly before the end of the year. I remember "One Shot Gatling" in the Avro trying to cover Sir Percy's Sopwith back in the day. I was there today (Sunday) with my eight year old son. It was his third visit and too many to count for his forty seven year old dad!
The Avro was on the flightline but didn't fly in the WWI show along with the Jenny, Dr1 and the new Nieuport. I imagine it was due to the wind that also kept the Bleriot, Hanriot and Caudron in run-up or taxi mode. The SPAD, Albatros and Fokker D7 did take to the skies.
Speaking of "One Shot" (who I believe was Stan Segala), I'm in awe of eighty-two year old Stan (aka the Flying Farmer) and the things he can (still) do with that Super Cub. Hammerheads, Spins, Rolls and a Deadstick Landing. Eighty two years old! Amazing stuff!
Despite the above mentioned winds which were mostly down the runway from the north, it turned out to be a nice sunny fall day. The shows are getting better IMHO (compared to the last couple of years) and I look forward to next year with a few more WWI birds in the air for a proper end-of-the show dogfight!
One week left in the 2007 Season.....

Sat. they had the Jenny, Albatros, D7, Dr1 and Spad all up in a small WW1 simulation. I hope the Nieuport goes up next weekend, I'd love to see it.

I saw the Camel in the shop. I also talked to one of the pilots who said it is slated to fly next season. All in all it seems like the days of 2 or three flying WWI aeroplanes are over, for the time being. It is also good to hear thatb there will finally be rotary powered aircraft flying more than just hops again.
