I'm at lose of words on hearing this tragic news of Vincent Nasta. My sincere condolences to his family.

As Vincent loved what he was doing and now fly's high above his love of aviation will live on in the ones he touched.

My Gallery
I didn't know Vinnie but it sounds like he was quite a guy. Such a shame that he had to be ORA's first fatality.

My prayers are with his family.

Blue skies, sir.

Unhappy Very Very Sorry!

I didn't know the man, but my sympathies and prayers go out to Mr. Nasta and his family/friends. Yes, Old Rhinebeck has an excellent track record in its almost 50 year history with no fatalities - until now. Even though this is the first, it hurts just as much as if it were the 2nd, 3rd ...! I've read that he spun it in, does anyone have any idea what lead to the accident? Was it loss of engine power resulting in a stall/spin, pilot incapacitation, structural failure, midair collision with the Dr-1...? I've also read that this particular a/c was tailheavy - did that have anything to do with it, or maybe just a pilot who was unfamiliar with its handling qualities. What was the mechanical condition of this a/c that came from NZ - did it rate up there with the other airshow a/c of the aerodrome? How much time did he have in this - or - any other WW1 type replica. I'm sure these questions will be answered in the future by the FAA/NTSB. Am just wondering if anyone has any scuttlebutt on the issue. Also, does this do anything to halt the rest of the shows in the near & distant future? ORA is walking over unchartered ground at this point... what does its future hold because of this?

My deepest sympathy to the Nasta family, friends and co-workers.

Nexstar - you raise many questions, some of which can be answered in the latest Poughkeepsie Journal article at Crash cause could be known in a year | PoughkeepsieJournal.com | Poughkeepsie Journal Other answers will take time to sort out, and out of respect to the family and loved ones we need to let the officials conduct the investigation.

Please say prayers.

Unhappy I Do Respect!

But as a pilot, I am understandibly curious as to what happened. I also know that it is under investigation by the appropiate agencies, that's not my job... I am just wondering if anyone close to the ORA family have any idea what could have possibly happened to cause this tragedy! Since this terrible accident was posted on this site at warp like speed, plus in the newspapers - including my local paper which is 150 miles away from Rhinebeck, it's safe to say there are a fair number of pilots who are wondering just what the hell went so very wrong! If it was someone in my family, I'd want to know what happened also. And I'll repeat for the record... no disrespect intended, to anyone.
