Hello,

I read in a book that a British observation balloon was brought down on 1st June 1916 near Wevelghem-Bisseghem by German planes (the balloon was loose by a gust of wind).
Does anyone have any more info about this (who got the victory, where this happened etc.)

Regards,
Jan

Hi Jan

Interesting and new information for me..!...This incident is not mentioned in the Heeresbericht or any Marine papers that I have seen...

However, as the actual cause of allied Balloon loss was the wind, it was very unlikely confirmed as a victory to a German flyer/flyers..!

Why should they shot it down when it already was drifting over German lines(?)..??

Hello Gunnar,

Thanks a lot for this answer. I'll try to find out more about the incident by contacting the author in whose book I found the report.

I'll come back to you if I have more.

Regards,
Jan
