Stephen, I am not going to refute those who are more learned than I as to the specifics of combats and their locations...however, as I pointed out then and do so now that regardless of the intentions to fight here or there, west or east, the certain fact remains that the winds were almost always from the west. Ergo, inevitably combats would, and did, drift east over into German held areas more than not....at least that's what my limited knowledge would allow me to conclude...

But my question to you would be this: In the Kogenluft records do most of the combats over Allied lines occur in the Spring and Summer months and mostly over German held areas in the Fall and Winter?

I think you could surmise where I am going with that....

Michael is right: Third Ypres (Aug-Nov 17) covered the period of GG's death in September. I suspect that a few outfits like the Storks were far more inclined to cross the lines than most. Jasta Boelcke, for one, noted a decided lack of aggressiveness among French units whereas the Brits were always willing to tangle. "Play up! Play up! And play the game!"

My Gallery
Gentlemen:
To resolve who fought over who's lines, Look at MvR and Jage Nr.1, almost all of the victories locations are known. Take map and check where the British fell. I think you will find a very high percentage fell inside the German lines. None were more aggressive than Jage Nr.1 Richthofen!
Blue skies,

A quick survey of Jasta B. victories for 1916 shows 56 in German territory, 2 between the lines, 23 in/behind allied lines, and 6 unspecified but evidently in the German zone (Sailly-Saillisel, Beaulencourt, Ypre, LeSars.) That's at least 65% in German controlled areas, maybe 70%
