I am looking for a map of the Dixmude (Diksmuide) area in Flanders, Belgium, as I am trying to find a crash site listed as "Ferme De Ceuninck" or Ceuninck's farm. It was prominent enough for the Belgian air service to site it in a report as the exact spot where a german plane crashed that they creditted to one of their pilots, so it may appear on maps of the area in 1917. Any help greatly appreciated !

Hi Charles -

Lots of "fermes" around Dixmuide.....

The only close match I see on period trench maps is "Ceinck Farm" which is about 1.5 km west of Dixmuide center and about .7 km SSE of Caeskerke. On a modern Michelin map Caeskerke is spelled "Kaaskerke" and lay right on the N35 west out of Diksmuide.

I managed to pull this up - the farm is the horseshoe facing open end to the right the lower left quadrant. Sorry the clarity is not better. Contact me off the thread and I'll send a better quality image of the locale.

Hope this is your crash site....
Mike

Jempie,

Could you send the map to me off-line at higher resoltuion. I think it is the farm further to the right, in line with the "89" map reference. Would appreciate whatever you can do. Email is charles@aeroconservancy.com On a cable modem, so size doesn't matter.

De Ceuninck Farm

Hi!

Scan is underways, but I need some time to get confirmed wich is correctly the correct farm!
All farms into this region seems to have been reconstructed post WWI!
And I got confirmed that De Ceuninck Farm still is there, only I don't know the correct place on this map!
Seems into this region at this moment an industrial zone and/or housebuilding construction zone is under development!
So might be factories or houses standing or gone to stand above that crash site!
