Zeppelin LZ85 and her crew
Hi,
I thought I would start my own thread, as I was gate-crashing a previous thread started by mreiss - sorry mreiss.
I am hoping that someone out there may be able to help me out with a couple of questions concerning the LZ85 and her crew.
Now that I have a complete listing of the crew, does anyone know what happened to them whilst they were prisioners of war and also what happened to them after the war. I am also trying to obtain a copy of the interrogation report, can anyone help?
The remains of the Zeppelin were taken to Barrow-in Furness on the HMS Canning. I don't know if anyone out there as any information concerning what happened to the remains.
I would also like to find out more about the bombs carried on the LZ85. They are more spherical in shape, and not what I have seen dropped from other Zeppelins. Does anyone have any photographs of the damage caused by the Zeppelin.
Bugger it - I could go on all night - if anyone can give me any extra information on the LZ85, I would be eternally grateful!
Kind regards
Ian

Hi Capt. Pikey:
If you aren't already aware, one of LZ85's crew members, Hermann Kuck, wrote an article for Over the Front (Summer 1968) in which some of his experiences with LZ 85 are told. The article contains some info you may be interested in (such as time as a POW, photos, etc.) although it might not be as detailed as you'd like. If you don't have a copy, I can scan the article for you.
Cheers, Amy

Very Happy Zeppelin Man!!!
Hi Amy,
You are amazing!!!!!!!
I had not seen or heard of the article that you mention. I would be eternally grateful if you do not mind scanning the article for me. I have been trying to find out more about what happened to them for ages, and although I posted this thread, I did not think that any one would know.
Perhaps, if you are willing you could send the scan to me on email. Let me also know what interests you have, as I have quite a bit of reference material, and I would like to return the favour by trying to help you.
Thank you so much for all your help - you are lovely!

A bomb carrier made of duralumin from this Zeppelin is shown on the Aero Conservancy web iste, http://www.aeroconservancy.com, along with an article on its downing.
The carrier was accompanied by a brass plaque reading "Bomb Carrier from Zeppelin L.85 Brought Down By H.M.S. Agamemnon At Salonica May 5, 1916."

Hi Charley,
Many thanks for the reply and the link to your great website. I had seen the site before, and was extremely happy that you had such great photographs of the bomb carrier. The diagrams of the bomb carrier are fantastic for my research. Out of interest, is their anyway you could let me know from what publication these diagrams came from?
Thank you once again for the the great reply - any chance that you would consider swapping the bomb carrier for my family, car, cats and house???????!!!!!
Kind regards
Ian

The diagrams come from Flusport No. 19, Page 442. I don't have this issue, but they are available to read at the Library of Congress. I do not live far from Washington. An article in Over the Front talks a great deal about Zeppelin incendiaries and uses the diagram from Flugsport, as well. I have a photocopy of a page (page 259) from the article, but, alas, I don't know what issue it is in. You can go to www.overthefront.com and look in the article index and go issue by issue and you should eventuially find it.
