Snoopy's WWI Christmas

Those of you who are attempting to celebrate Christmas without the WWI Snoopy vs. Red Baron Christmas album are simply going through the motions. Its the all time classic and an absolute MUST for everyone on this forum! We're setting up the tree tonight with the kids (a week late) and its on right now while my wife makes chocolate chip cookies.

MERRY CHRISTMAS SNOOPY
Creative Sounds Ltd/Intermusic

Anybody know who actually did the singing on this album?

I have that album...a priceless classic. Makes me cry to hear it.

Credited to the Royal Guardsmen (1967).

A little known fact is that the story is based on the papers and documents of the Mad Major Ginger. For historical reference see;

Are you serious? I dunno enough about the Mad Major to tell... besides, after the war, everybody and his brother was called the Mad Major. So give us the scoop!

No, the mad Major reference was to our own Major Ginger of the off topic narratives. The truth is;
'... By 1967, the Peanuts gang had become a multimedia phenomenon. The Charlie Brown Christmas special, first aired in 1965, was on its way to becoming a perennial Yuletide rerun. In 1966, Snoopy's escapades as a flying ace were expanded into a sort of comic-strip novella, entitled Snoopy Vs. The Red Baron.

The following year, the Royal Guardsmen released the song "Snoopy Vs. The Red Baron" on a single for Laurie Records. It was a story song in the tradition of Johnny Horton's historical epics like "Battle Of New Orleans" (which the RG would later cover) and "Sink The Bismarck."

Throughout the rest of the decade, the Royal Guardsmen would continue to capitalize on Snoopy's fantasy exploits, presenting a rematch with the Red Baron, and following with a Christmas truce with Snoopy and Red Baron toasting each other in no-man's-land. Then, in a parallel with contemporary U.S. history, Snoopy would run in the 1968 presidential election (winning by one vote provided by his former nemesis) and finally help the U.S. astronauts conquer the moon by manning a decoy flight to throw off the Russians...'

Thanks for the background steve. I love to snoopy tunes, but the rest of the album is kind of difficult to listen to. The Royal Guardsmen had a very strong "garage band" quality about them. I understand that the quality of the recording is nothing like today and that may have a great deal to do with it. Still, not a holiday season passes without a listen to it. It is a classic!!!

Merry Christmas my friend!

Aha! More evidence of illegal aliens and voter fraud!
