Thumbs up Under the Guns of the Red Baron

I was glancing through Under the Guns of the Red Baron today and wondered if anyone ever tried to write a similar book about one of the leading Allied Aces.

Red face

Yep, Big Al did start one about BB but abandoned it due to being unable to corroborate any of the evidence.

I wouldn't be surprised if Grub Street commissioned a multi-ace Allied volume along the lines of "Under the Guns of the Kaiser's Aces." (I decline to make a snide remark about how short "Under the Guns of Billy Bishop" would be. After all, Ginger got there first!) Trouble is, there's prob'ly not enough info on the French claims to permit a comparable treatment, and the Yanks don't have enough claims to fill a similar book--even with all those are OOCs and less decisive claims. So...the best prospect would be "Under the Guns of KG V's Aces" with McCudden, Mannock, and Barker. Vol. II might include Ball, BP, and McLaren. Vol. III could be multinational with Baracca, Coppens, & Kazakov. Assuming there's adequate info, of course.
