FA11 captured airfield?
Hello
Looking through Cas of the german Air Service I notice that there is a listing on
10 9 14 at Monte Fontaine of several WIA and KIA and POw-as this was around the time of the Marne movements was this the capture by allies of an airfield?

Hi
I think that the attack, which was launched by French cavalry actually occurred in the night 9 to 10 Sep 14.
The airfield contained 6 a/c from FFA 11 and 2 from FFA 12. Some a/c were reported damaged but all were later reported to have been repaired.
It is reported that a total of 16 (?) men were kiled and others wounded. German Dragon and Hussars did came in for rescue...

I think Eberhardts book reported about the fight in a longer chapter but I can not search for it because I am abroad.

In his book on the German attack the German CO von Kluck situates and describes the attack on the German planes on 8 september south of le Ferté-Milon
Is this the same attack?

Yes, it is the same attack, but it actually happened - as Gunnar said - in the night 9 / 10. Sep 1914. French 16. dragoons attacked the mechanics and planes of FFA 11 south of Mortefontaine ( not Monte Fontaine ) at around 3.00 am on 10 Sep 1914. Mortefontaine is located around 10 km north of Villers-Cotterêts. Possibly there was an error in von Kluck's memories... because FFA 11 moved on 9 Sep 1914 from La-Ferté-Milon to Mortefontaine where the events took their course...

Hey, no fair! That's the way it's spelled in the von Eberhardt necrology (but I admit, the Deutschen Verlustlisten has it as Mortefontaine). So I goofed again. R.

Hi Rick,
 those tricky french names...
First I was unsure too! I then cross-checked with a Michelin road-map.
BTW, the article mentioned by Rammjäger in "Unsere Luftstreitkräfte 1914-1918" was written by Major Hans Eduard von Heemskerck. The article provides a little sketch of the area.

September
Hi Immo,
I'm looking for info on German units in Belgium during September 1914.
From this period I have nothing.
Where can I find some info?
I have info of FFA4 but I'm also looking for info on FFA 1, 38, 40, 41, 6, 3 and 2B during 1914.
Can you help me?
Roser
