British bombing of Kagohl III aerodrome 28 May 1917

Hi,

On the 28th May 1917 British planes seem to have attacked the aerodrome of Sint-Denijs Westrem which was the Armee Flugpark 4 and home of a number of the Kagohl III units.

Can anyone shed a light on what unit did the attack ?

Thanks and best from Johan

Hi Johan,

you are looking for Naval 5. Four D.H.4s and the Sopwith B1 prototype, serial N50, left Coudekerque at 12.30 - two of the D.H.4s provided the fighter escort. At Saint denis Westrem two direct hits were recorded on a large hangar and another hangar hit with a 112lb bomb. Eight very large white aircraft were reported to be dispersed on the aerodrome and it was felt that some of them must have suffered from shrapnel damage.

This comes from CPO Bartlett's Bomber Pilot 1916-1918.
