Kagohl III Gotha escort 5 June 1917

Hi,

During the raid on England on the 5th June 1917 on England the Gotha bombers were escorted during the last half hour of their returnflight by fighter planes. Does anyone know what unit(s) did this job ?

Thanks and best from Johan

I just looked this raid up in "The Sky on Fire. The First battle of Britian. 1917-1918" it does mention the German fighters at the end of the flight. But it does not say what type they are or from what Squadrons.

Thanks Ross,

This is at least the confirmation of it !

On later occasions I seriously suspect a certain MvR and Jasta 11 to have done the job. There are after all the pictures of him taken in June 1917 at Kagohl III, which are also to be found in Greg's great book Richthofen's Circus: Jagdgeschwader Nr 1.
However the question remains, 'who did it' the first time on the 5th June ?

Best from Johan
